The sad reality of today's economy in the US
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/10/06/...ide/index.html
It always makes me sad to see things like this. I also read a few days ago about an elderly woman's home loan being forgiven because she shot herself when the sheriff tried to remove her from her home.
[ame]http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/business/2008/10/06/tsr.boudreau.lehman.ceo.cnn[/ame]
I then see videos of stories like this. This is what is wrong with society nowadays. People with priorities focused solely on greed, not caring how this will look to others or how it will impact the rest of the world as a whole. It is outright unnecessary to be bailing out these financial institutions when a CEO has been paid close to $500 million dollars, even as the institution was going under. No explanation either, which makes me completely irate. The government want people to support a bill that's putting them further into debt, yet we're supposed to accept that stuff like this is meant to happen?
I don't think the bailout needed to be given to the financial sector. I think it needed to be given to the American people who have lost their jobs and almost lost their homes (or have already lost their homes) in order to help them out. Big greedy corporate America didn't need a single dime.
The time to shift people's ideals to helping their own neighbors instead of lining the pockets of big business needs to stop. I beg those of you who are able to vote in the election in November to choose someone who you feel can do this the most. Not only that, but make sure that your voices are heard where it counts...your pocket books. Invest in your local business and make sure that they stay afloat. Buy your produce locally. Give to your local charity. Help rebuild America from the ground up. Perhaps then someone up there in big Washington will finally realize they've had their priorities in the wrong place this whole time.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

Sad situations...both videos...

I know CEO's are paid an exorbitant amount of money...supposedly they "earn" it?? I can't imagine anyone's services being worth THAT kind of money???
In the same breath, if it was honestly and truly his pay...it's his to keep... I don't believe that anyone should have to give an earned paycheck back to keep a company afloat (although as CEO you would think this would be part of his JOB?).
Hard to know what to think with all the "yuck" out there, anymore.
I agree with ya...we need to get back to community, family, good morals and values. I know who I'm voting for...in hopes of this outcome. Though really, it's all of OUR jobs to make America the great nation it used to be (not the president or VP's job)...but, equally, all of us working together.Kace - married to Dh 12 years

I'm of the opinion that the bail-out money shouldn't have been given to either. I'd rather back up and not have the people taxed so heavily and have all that government waste. I think this bail-out may be incredibly temporary. I think it's only a matter of time till we have a severe depression.

You know what is really scary...we get almost all our loans from China!!! I personally don't think our government should be getting into more debt.
As for the first story, that is just horrible. I can't even image what was going through his mind (although, I believe there is a very warm spot in Hell for him after this).Mom to Sara Louise (11) Wife to wonderful hubby Chad

I am really frightened by what is going on right now. I have anxiety disorders and this is not helping at all. Everyday I wonder what will be next.

It is high time for the government to help "bail out" the tax payers and stop "bailing out" big business. There is not a single CEO of any company that is getting the huge bail outs that is in jeopardy of losing his home or for that matter even his job. Heck, AIG rewarded their upper management with a spa trip

I honestly think the money should have been given to homeowners who were legit and needed it to buy out their homes, instead of giving it to the big businesses first. I understand about some businesses who need loans to keep going, that they needed alot of help. It's the banks that let things go for so long that have me irate.
There needs to be some accountability from landlords who let their mortgages go also, letting tenants feel the burn while they get off scot free.
I've always been a big fan of getting out of it what you put into it. People who work hard and put their earnings into something in a fair manner. The people who were honest, hardworking and invested into their families' futures shouldn't be left out in the cold.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!
