    Default skunk help needed

My dog got sprayed late last night. I immediately bathed her. No luck. I then bathed her in tomato juice. No luck. I bought an enzyme for skunk. She still stinks. I then tried a mix found multiple times on the net with 1 qt peroxide, 1/4 c baking soda, 1 T dish soap. She still smells and the bathroom where I bathed her is awful! Any more suggestions?

Did you let the peroxide solution soak? We've used it and it works good. OTOH you may still smell it because your nose is "infected" with the scent.

regardless, the situation stinks. pun intended.

My oldest sheltie is the WORST at going after skunks. She will never learn. She's gotten skunked at least 3 times in the 4 yrs we've lived here. The skunk enzyme stuff helps the most. The only thing that gets rid of it completely...is time. We had to spray her every few days with the skunk enzyme stuff and she still stunk for weeks afterward.

Thanks everyone for a few ideas. I now just doused her in mouthwash. Now she smells like a minty skunk.

I did let the solution sit about 5 min. Should it be longer??

Wouldn't you know I have to take her in the car at 3????

I agree. When it happens, every thing smells skunky!
When my cat tangled with one, I didn't have any tomato juice - I had to dilute tomato sauce!

I would try putting out some bowls of vinegar around the house, also the car for overnite...that might help with the smell some.
The only other suggestion might be to spray the dog down regularly with vinegar and see if that helped....

Just incase anyone else ends up skunked. The Odor ban the vet sprayed them with killed the odor on the dog and the house. A gallon was only $11 at Sams club and you dilute it so it goes a long ways. I'm now ready if heaven forbid it happens again.

And, if the dog was hanging over the skunk, mouth open, the dog may have been skunked in her mouth. That happened to my big old dog. We gave him tomato juice in his bowl to drink. (He sniffed it and wasn't sure he wanted to try it, but I told him it would make his mouth feel better, and he tasted it cautiously, then lapped it up like it was the best thing in the world. )
