Adventures in Moving
Moving across country is not an easy task.
We picked up a 16 ft truck and a trailer for our car on Monday morning. We loaded the truck most of the day on Monday as well as ran some last minute errands. We had hoped to sleep on an air mattress at our house Monday night, but someone packed it. So it was off to a hotel.
By noon on Tuesday we hoped to have the house cleaned and be on the road. Well we ended up not getting on the road until 3pm. We got on the road and knew right away that something was wrong. My DH was having a hard time controlling the truck. It was all over the interstate. In Des Moines (30 miles away) we almost tipped over. The tipping and swaying occurred 3 more times before we got to Omaha.
We called Penske in Omaha and took the truck to be looked at. It had a bad tire. They fixed it, but the machanic said that we may be overloaded.
So we unloaded the car and left the truck at Penske. The next morning we called and asked for a larger 22 ft truck.
Well all they had was 26 ft truck. They upgraded us for free and helped us find mover to transfer our stuff.
So bay 11 am we were back on the road in a 26 ft truck loaded only about 2/3 full pulling our car.
Wednesday we drove across Nebraska and yesterday we drove from Cheyenne, Wy to Boise, ID. We should be near our destination today and tomorrow we are loading.
If we ever do this again, I am hiring professionals.Julie
