He is going to lose his job --
and we need as many positive vibes we can get.
The phone rang at 6:30 this morning... when he called me by name and not the usual "hey hon", I knew something was wrong.
He got a speeding ticket on the way to work. The officer estimated him going 46 in a 30, but the radar said 40 in a 30. No, I am not going to defend him, it was a bonehead thing to do... but this is more than a $100 fine.
He is good at what he does. His bosses have even made him the example of the level of service the other techs should try for. His job has 'point systems' and if you get 7 points in 3 years, you're fired. He already has 3 points for a ticket a few months ago. His bosses question the ticket, because they say there was no way he was going as fast as they said he was in the company van -- but they aren't the ones who pulling the driving records of employees every 6 months... that's corporate.
He already spoke to his boss. They want him to go to the RMV and find out if the officer could be awarded estimated instead of radar if he took it to court. If he pays the fines without going to court, he will get 3 points -- leaving only 1 point for the next 3 years. Not having a seatbelt on is 1 point. If he takes it to court and the officer doesn't show, and it's dropped. 0 points. If he goes to court, the officer shows up and he is awarded estimated -- that's 4 points and he is fired.
Part of me just wants him to pay the fine and stop being a bonehead because it's the safer of the 2 and buys us some time for him to start looking for another job.
He could be re-hired, in 6 months... but thats 6 months of financial hell. As of right now, my signature is correct, so not a lot of wiggle room there.
There is no way to avoid this... he is going to lose his job... it's just a matter of when.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

Oh no I am so sorry. I guess the best thing to do is to start looking for a new one. Why was he speeding so much? was he running late?
Best of luck

Have him go to court. Seriously. A lot of times a judge will listen to his side, take into account that he may lose his job over a 10mph speeding ticket and they could reduce it to a non-moving violation and give him less or no points. Even if the officer does show up!
Go to court.

~I agree with Heather. I think the judge will take it into account if he could lose his job. A couple of speeding tickets isn't so bad that you should lose your job.~

I'd take it to court as well. A judge is not going to want someone unemployed over a poice officers "estimate".

I agree for him to go to court. And they would go by the numbers on the radar, I can't imagine them defending an observation over technology. It may also help in lowering the points or fine if your husband is able to explain what a loss in his financial situation would mean for the family.

also enroll in a class to reduce his points.
a lot of the time companies will pay for the class.
helps his insurance and the companies also.
I'm with Heather go to court.

I know here if you get a ticket you can go to traffic school which will make the ticket not show up on your on your record...... You still have to pay the fine . If you don't have that where you are at. I would go to court
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

I agree with most of everyone else, have him go to court and hopefully the judge will drop it down, you'll never know until he tries it.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. Have your DH do what he can to get those points reduced, including court and any other classes that they may offer for things like that.

I am going to talk to him about going to court and pleading the case of having 2 dependents and the ticket will mean he loses his job.
As far as the points go, they are 'company points' not necessarily driving points. We can try to do the classes, but they would have to totally erase him ever getting a ticket, and have it erased before the next time corporate ran his driving record.
Thank you everyone!
