    Default old socks

cut old socks into loops and weave into potholders. cotton socks are the best. you can also sew the potholders together to make a rug, using a tufting needle and double strands of crochet cotton.you can make rug yarn from the loops to create other style of rugs..see previous post (tshirts) for instructions.

I stick an old sock over a can of Pledge and use it to dust. When it gets dirty, I just throw it away.

    Darlene!!! rofl

I was just looking at sock puppet patterns not long ago. I keep telling myself that I'll make at least two and I never get around to it.

I never even considered making potholders. That's a great tip. I loved my little loom when I was a kid.

    Default Uses for mismatched socks

Please feel free to add your uses as well.

    Uses for mismatched socks:
Put on your hand and use for a dust rag
Fill 1/2 full with rice, tie the top off and microwave for a small heating pad (my daughter uses one when she gets an earache).
Use 2 full of rice and microwaved to put in the kids pockets when they go out to play in the snow to keep them warm.

Our Middle Schoolers her wear mismatched socks as a fashion statement. Don't ask me what their trying to say other than they get dressed in the dark lol
But more than half the kids at DD's school sport this fashion trend.

use a sock to cover a chair leg so puppies can't chew them.

Make cat toys, fill with some cat nip and tie or sew shut.

Use it around a cup or can so it doesn't sweat and leave marks or water.

Use it to comb the cat, it pulls the loose hair off. Just pet the cat with one on.

Use bigger ones on the swifter, no more buying replacement pads for them.

Make a fetch toy for the dog. Stuff it, toss it and play.

Make soap on a rope, stuff with soap pieces and hang, tie one outside to the spicket and have soap to wash with outside.

    Make bean bags.

Cut them and use them as sweat wipes on your arm when you are cooking.
(cut out the toe, pull them just above you wrist and you have a place to wipe you sweaty brow when you cook.

Put large socks over your shoes when painting, keeps the paint off.

Use socks as mitten liners, they help keep hands warm.

Use them to polish your shoes.

Cut them in to loops and let the kids weave them together.

    Stuff pillows with them.

Use them in the garden to tie up plants.

Put moth balls in the in your attic.

Make leg warmers. Cut the bigger ones and pull them up over your knees to help keep them warm.

Cover a cast with them, it keeps the cast clean.

Pull them over ruff dry hands at night that have baby oil on. Keeps them soft and keeps the oil form getting all over.

Leave a few in the car, they make great dash board cleaners.

    Make Barbie clothes.

Use them as erasers for a dry erase board.

use them for sachet, in drawers to make clothes smell good.

wear them on your hands to wash fruit and veggies.

fill one with stones to make a door stop.

use them to wax your car.

use them to keep cords together. Slide a cord in and they don't tangle.

and here is a cute snowman to make from old socks.
