So Bored...Just a HUGE vent
I am about to go totally nuts. I am basically stuck in bed for at least the next three weeks.
I had a tough patch of skin on my toe I was not really concerned about. OK, bigmistake. I am a diabetic with peripheral neuropathy classified as severe. I have absolutely NO feeling in my feet, my legs from my knees down or in my hands. This past week the skin on the place started to peel away, and the place just got worse. I treated it with peroxide and Neosporin, but after a couple of days I realized it was just not getting any better. I have great insurance so there is no reason for me not to go to the doctor right away. I was just being hard headed and stupid. I finally called the doctor at the wound care center yesterday and he wanted me to come in that afternoon.
It was an ulcer. He had to cut it out. Luckily since I have no feeling I never felt him cutting it out. But then he tells me, "OK Leigh we have to put a cast on you for at least three weeks." WHT??? I was really not prepared for this. I have a mega huge cast on my right foot. It covers my toes and goes all of the way up to my knee. It is so heavy. I have really high arches so they had to build up the arch in the cast. Over the past few years my feet have turned a bit(again, due to the no feeling thing) They naturally relax in an odd position. They had to straighten out my foot to cast it and now it seriously hurts. My foot wants to turn and cannot. When the lady was putting the cast on she made the comment that I was really not going to like her because of how she was having to turn my foot. I wasn't sure what she meant at the time, but now I do.
I am not allowed to drive and walking has become so painful. My bathroom is about 20-25 feet from my bed and making that walk is difficult. I am basically stuck in bed and bored out of my mind.
I just hope it heals as it should and the cast can come off in three weeks like they are hoping. Otherwise we could be saying "Bye-bye Mr. Toe" in a few weeks.
Sorry this is so long. I tend to ramble on and on when I am bored or nervous. Today, I am both.DD (19)

Have someone pick some arnica up at the store for you. It is a homeopathic thing that helps you heal up. I am so sorry about your cast and your foot.

That's terrible. Hope it heals up fast for you. My Dad is diabetic too and I always have to keep up on him when he complains about his feet.

Oh Leigh, I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I hope it heals for you and you don't have to lose your toe.
Maybe you should learn to knit

Neeley, It's very important (as you well know) to take care of yourself. Follow orders!! Make sure you're on a vitamin, vit c plus eating extra protein.. to heal faster. With that being said- always check with your dr! Would a walker help with walking to the bathroom? How about puzzles, books, movies, phoning long lost friends, crochet/knit? get your xmas cards done, write letters, plan your holiday menus-find new recipes, demand (!) visits from everybody!!! Get well soon!

Thanks everyone for your sweet words of encouragement. I do appreciate them tremendously.
Zakity - I am going to have to give that a try. I had never heard of it - Thanks!!!
Heather, Aimeebee & Ali Lee - you are all so right, I've got plenty of time to learn to knit or take up another new hobby. Our A.C.Moore is going out of business so I may send DH there to get me a book on knitting and all of the goodies to go along with. I deserve a treat - LOL!!!
Intmom - It is my right foot, big toe.
Again, many thanks!!! Let's hope these three weeks fly by and it heals up nicely.Last edited by Neeley; 10-31-2008 at 03:07 PM.

I hope everything heals! I'll say a prayer for you. May I suggest a Knifty Knitter, it's very easy to pick up and learn.
