Orphon kittens in the country road
My hubby just came off for lunch and what does he bring in the house, but 5 little kittens. Someone just dropped them off in the road real close to where we live. We can't keep them as we have 2 cocker spaniels and it won't be a happy household.
I already called the dog warden who have no way to take them right now. They are full. And the county SPCA and waiting on a call back from them. They want the plate number my husband wrote down of the vehicle. He even stopped the people and asked them if they dropped off cats, and the guy said no, he was just talking on the cell phone. Funny this guy, can drive down the road and still be talking on the cell phone which is a no no in this state.
I am not sure but I think they made the laws in this state, NY, a lot harder on people who drop off animals. Animal cruelty it's called.
Now we are hoping we get a call back soon so we can find these kittens a temp or a permanent home. They are really cute and healthy, about 5-6 weeks old.
I did give them some dry cat food that I had here because if I get a free coupon, I pick up cat food for my mother in law's cats. I did give them some water.
I was told no milk, so thankfully I had not given them any.
Right now, they are sleeping in a laundry basket on a old towel.
The dogs are in the room with me, so I know they are not checking out the kittens.
I just wish people would not do stupid things like this. They just pass their problems onto someone else. And where the kittens got dropped off, they was no house, or a barn, or nothing. They would have been coyote food in short order.

Awww that's sad. I have such a big soft spot for kittens. My cat was a stray I'd found with his two 2 week old brothers. I was able to nurse them until they were old enough to separate and found the brothers good homes. I hope yours have a happy future too.

It's called irresponsible pet owners.
GET YOUR CATS SPAYED!
I'm sorry but this is a HUGE pet peeve for me. As a dog owner I am required to license my dogs and they must be up to date on shots. And if my dogs are spayed or nuetered I get a reduced rate for the license. And we are not allowed to let them run.
Cat owners on the other hand have no such rules and the cats are allowed to roam freely wherever they want. Spreading whatever disease and having litter after litter.
TIME FOR EQUAL RIGHTS!!! Start charging people and you will see less of this problem... rant over.Russ

It really is unbelieve how humans can sometimes treat animals that are domesticated buy us humans for OUR pleasure. Would have to say, if I were in your shoes I probably would not be able to give them away. Kittens are just to cute. Bless your husband for saving them. I hope you find a homes for them. If you have a PetSmart around you, you can call them and they may have names and numbers of local cat rescues.

I know how you feel. We had a dog dumped at our home. I was furious, because he was someones pet. He can sit and lay down. He knows how to ride in the truck and on the mule.I was going to take him to the shelter, but they told me that since he is a Pittbull mix, he would be put to death .I refused . I felt a dog of his wonderful character deserved a good home. So I kept him. He's got my back.

Yes please spay and neuter.
Years ago, when we lived on the farm, there was many a time, animals had got dropped off. One we did adopt ourselves, she was mixed breed, mostly lab.
Seemed like a lot of cats, and they ended up in the barn.
Every so often, we see a few cats on the side of the road when we go to town, but they are older animals, and don't stand still very long. Once they know they been seen, they start running.
Well none of the agencies that should have been able to help us, were of no help. I had a phone conversation with hubby's cousin this afternoon, and they have a farm, and she told me to bring them over. YAY
So they are in a huge dog kennel cage, and as soon as they are bigger, they will be let out to roam around the farm. She thought her sister might take one or two of them, as she had recently lost her cat.
We did sex the little rascals - all were boys.
3 grays, 1 black, and 1 tortie color. Nice kittens.
I now have 2 dogs back to normal here. Thanks goodness. I was worried if we kept them for too long, one of us might be tempted. The tortie was really cute and the black one was full of mischief. The 3 gray ones were more quiet types.
So the day ended well

They are cute!!
People dropping pets off is how we got our Main Coon cat.
Living in the country people are always dropping off their unwanted pets.
Makes me want to take the people that do this and drop them off somewhere with no food and water and lets see how they survive.

I foster for our county shelter and they are actually very pitbull friendly, but I know that is the exception to the rule. When I lived in Sacramento, someone dumped what appeared to be a purebred American Staffordshire puppy in my backyard, and the shelter told me any dogs that appeared to have pitbull in them were immediately euthanized.

Our county shelter DOES immediately destroy dogs that chase livestock, including chickens. So both my boys would be in trouble if I decided to dump them on a country road. Oh, wait, I *live* on a country road.

ladytoysdream, I am glad your cat tale had a happy ending. I love cats. Dogs, too but cats especially.

Our community catches and spays the stray cats. They formed a group that is funded by donations to do this. It has greatly diminished the cat population in our city. I also should mention that the mice and rats are now running rampant here as well. For the first time in over 10 years, I had mice get into my basement. If you ask me, I'd much prefer having the cats roaming free at night.

Oooo, as a shelter volunteer, do NOT get me started on people who dump animals! Alter your pets and keep them indoors, you thankless, worthless pieces of humanity! I would love to alter THEM.

I go to our local Humane Society at least onth a month to volunteer and although it has it's rewards, such as spending time with the animals and spoiling them with love, it is also very heartwrencing too. You know what the outcome for many of the amimals is:-( I have no use for people who abuse helpless animals. As Lori said above, I too would love to alter them!

We found a kitten on the river bank in the woods a couple of weeks ago. This poor little one had to walk atleast one mile to get to the river. I just can't believe that someone would do something like that to any animal.
