any advice on health insurance?
So Dh is losing his job which means insurance also. He will have another job but it does not currently offer insurance. I called to check into health insurance through our company that has our other insurance policies and they said that we would be better off trying to get state coverage on our ds because he has had past medical issues. the only policy they can offer him will have riders and very high ($5000) deductibles so it is pretty much for major stuff. The policy would also not cover well checkups. I think this was through BCBS. Do you all have any other ideas? I am going to try for state coverage for him but our income may be an issue. He is only 3 years old so not having insurance is not an option, KWIM?

I am not sure, but I believe some states will cover him if you cannot get an adequate policy for him elsewhere. And it seems that what they are offering id not adequeate for a three year old w/ pre-existing conditions.

I'd definitely check with the state first, see if even with the income thing he might qualify for at least Medicaid. I'm not familiar with any sort of private insurance beyond Medicaid because our two forms of health insurance are both private (Sun Life Financial) and public (Alberta Health Care - gov't funded). Your best bet would be to start from the ground up. Give your local social services section a call and see what they can recommend, given your income and DH's employment situation.

Contact your state. We live in pa and they have a health insurance program for all kids called PA-Chip. It is based on your income, all uninsured children qualify it's just that your premium is based on income. There are little to no deductibles on well visits and dentist. I think all states are mandated to have a similar program.

In our state you can buy health ins for any child regardless of income through Badger Care Plus. I hope there is something like that in your state.
We are grapling with the layoo no ins issue too. I'm hoping to have a resolution soon.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

thanks you all. We have Cover Tn here but I dont know enough abou tit yet to know for sure if he qualifies. One of the eligability requirements said something about him haveing to be unisured for 3 months! I dont think I can chance letting his insurance go like that but he may qualify for coverage as soon as Dhs plan lapses which will probably be in the next 2 weeks. I am gonna call tomorrow

EKKKK I hope that isn't right. Too be honest I couldn't understand our states website and only got it when I called and they explained it. There were so many exceptions and guidelines it was a jungle. Can you just apply online in TN? In WI you apply online (did that) and wait for them to review and contact you (still waiting). I know WI will go back 30 days and cover any uninsured bills.
