Favorite Thanksgiving Foods
Thanksgiving is coming! And like a lot of Americans, I think about the food aspect of this wonderful holiday. Some foods are traditional for the nation, while others are traditional just for our family.
What food is your favorite when it comes to Thanksgiving? Is it traditional in your family? Who fixes it? Why do you like it? How did the tradition start, if you know?
My favorite is the oyster dressing. I have always loved oysters, but they didn't grow in Iowa, where I was raised, so they were a rare treat. A poor farm family could live nicely without oysters, thank you very much. (And I'm not talking Rocky Mountain oysters.....) But oyster dressing was on the board for Thanksgiving, and oyster soup was tradition for Christmas. Believe me, we were VERY thankful for those oysters since we never had them other times. Now my sister makes this treat for us, and she is such a great cook. I'm hungry for it now!Spiritual:

My favorite Thanksgiving food would probably be the cornbread dressing. Or wait no, a baked bean recipe that we do that's been a tradition in our family for years. Wait no...it's the pecan pie. I confess, it's the pie.

I think my favorite is the stuffing. Nothing fancy, but we've been making it the same way in my family since i can remember.

We don't have anything fancy. The standard fare. But it's all of my favorites all on one plate. I'm the only one that eats butternut squash or sweet potatoes. It's wonderful having something ALL FOR ME.

The stuffing. God made turkey so we could have stuffing.
Creamed onions are a tradition with us that we brought to Texas from the Northeast. We've "converted" many Texans to this tradition.

Stuffing for me I could eat that for the whole meal. I make it in various ways and this year I am thinking of making a sausage stuffing which my mother always made. Of course the pies come in second.

Turkey I can take or leave. I usually leave it, even though I cook it.
Stuffing--my dh's grandma's old recipe.
Sweet potatoes, w/ pecan and brown sugar topping.
Apple pie and Pumpkin pie.
I'm the only one who likes the cranberry relish.______

Green bean casserole - Not just anyone's though- Our green bean casserole with extra sharp white cheddar cheese, fresh mushrooms, onions, heavy cream, some other stuff and of course those crunchy fried onion thingies.
Oh I also love the cranberry dipping sauce made with fresh cranberries.
And of course, the 'using up Thanksgiving leftovers - Cranberry sauce and Turkey pizza". Yum.
