I like the idea of a forum where we can be more expressive. But perhaps it needs some moderators? The namecalling and personal attacks we've been seeing don't belong in any conversation.

I agree. I would be willing to be a moderator on the board if you would keep it open!

I completely see your point, but I also opened it under the conditions that I would not be moderating it.

Participation in the debate forum is voluntary.

Why can't those who want it gone just get their access removed?

    Viola! Its gone (for them).
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Or those making abusive posts could have their access rescinded.

That would be moderating the forum.

I do learn from the debate forum.I know we all have different opinions. As I get to know others on the forums, I am learning that we all have different ways to express ourselves. Some people cuss, some are intellectual, some are analytical.I love to tease, and I know it brings some to the point of anger. But all in all, the people here treat me very well. They accept my own quirky personality.I like them all.Keep the debates open.

Not necessarily. Cutting off those who are repeatedly reported for offenses would be different than keeping a close eye on the goings on.

My hunch is that if you remove it, those sorts of posts will spill over into the General Chat area. Removing them from that location might be more work than moderating the Debate forum. Even threads that do not start out to be controversial often meander down that path.

We could. But then we could not report them and they will continue to abuse others. I don't believe ignoring the problem is serving the communities best interest.

Do you want the debate forum to be unmoderated, or do YOU not want to be its moderator?

What about hand picking 2 or 3 mods from various political viewpoints who have repeatedly demonstrated personal integrity in their debates and give them the job of keeping the forum in good taste without suppressing any particular political viewpoints?

Actually, I agree - and so I never put anyone on ignore.

But it is an option for the easily offended.

I love that forum. I have no desire to see it moderated. We are all adults and read or post there of our own free will. If you're offended stop reading!
