    Smile Hello from upstate NY!

    Hi all,

I recently found this site (compliments of our local paper) and thought I'd introduce myself.

I've always been on the frugal side, thanks to being raised by a single mother and her British mother, but recently my boyfriend was laid off and we've had to step it up a notch. He's 25 and on a waiting list to get a job with the state (which is on hold considering a hiring freeze), and I'm 21 and a full time bank teller, going back to school in the spring to finish a business administration degree.

Besides doing 90% of our grocery shopping at Aldi, I think the biggest money-saving thing we do is hand wash/hang dry a lot of our laundry. It cuts down our laudromat trips to 1 a month or less, and it conserves a lot of energy. It's hard to do for a some items (jeans and comforters), but it's great for the basics, and my work clothes don't get as much wear and tear! The $10 drying rack I bought a few months ago has paid for itself at least 10 times over already

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

I'm about 30 minutes South of Rochester.

(I also forgot to mention that we save a LOT by not having a car We live within a half mile of anywhere we need to be, so it just makes sense.)

Welcome from Minnesota! You obviously have some great tips to share.

My daughter just moved back to Minnesota from Watertown, NY, up near the border.
