I generally do "big" shopping 2x/month at Price-Rite in the second and last weeks of the month. I try to avoid the first and the 15th there because of food stamps.
I'll go to Trader Joe's and the Stop & Shop near my house pretty much anytime I need something. Traffic there is pretty even throughout the month, unless it's a holiday.
Sales and loss leaders are few and far between here, so I don't really bother with those anymore. Most of the weekly flyers are "Everyday Low Price" items.Last edited by The Muse; 11-12-2008 at 03:05 PM.

We shop weekly, whatever day we happen to have off. I try and avoid the weekends because the stores are so busy.

That is our method as well. We've been known to shop late (9pm) or on a Friday night just to avoid the crowds! Late morning and on Sundays are the worst times to shop.
We shop weekly too, however our totals fluctuate from $70 a week to $30. It just depends on the left over situation. Almost every week is milk, bread, and fresh fruit and veg.

Honestly, normally on a Saturday morning/ afternoon every week. Sometimes I will skip a week, but we like fresh produce and thus it's somewhat of a necessity to do so.
My partner only like bananas when they have just turned from green to yellow and won't eat them most of the time when the first few small pin prick sized brown spots start to develop. I don't really care for bananas much myself so that means we need to buy them somewhat on a weekly basis or just do without for a few days/ up to a week.

I usually shop on Fridays so I will have food for the weekend. Unless I run out of milk or some other necessity I try to go just once a week. I don't have any special amount I spend on groceries in my budget but unless it is a special occasion coming up I don't spend excessively.
I do have a much bigger balance at the end of the month now as I paid my mortgage August, 29, 2008 and that gets rid of my biggest bill.

I like to shop on Tuesdays because that is when our store seems to mark down the most stuff for "quick" sales.

We don't get our food stamps until the 20th of the month so I usually end up going the weekend after we receive them. I try to do the bulk of the shopping but try to put back for the milk and sales that may occur after that. I was so proud of myself this month. I stocked up on alot of stuff and packed it away in our storage unit because we're suppose to move anytime in the next 90 days. Surprisingly my cupboards are still pretty well stocked and we're due to get our fs on Thursday, next week. I'm hoping to really add to my stockpile while I can.

I go on Sundays. I usually try to get there early because the store gets so busy before 10am. Superstore had to extend their hours because they had so much business and people were needing it for the holidays.

I go on Sat morning because I only have the car on weekends, and if I wait until Sunday the english muffins DH likes are all gone. It's honestly not that crowded where I shop, the aisles are wide and I never have to wait in line behind more than one person. I like to shop once a week so I can buy small amounts of fresh produce and hit the weekly sales and specials.

I try to go early Sunday mornings to hit up the sales w/ coupons. If I need something during the week I will run in & out through express. I try to avoid going during peak times, as the grade of people who shop at those times really push my buttons.

Since i do ebay ,any extra i make on there goes in my food account. So far I have a few items selling and $ 100 or so in paypal. That will go for extra items to build my stock pile up again.

I usually shop on Wednesdays because that is when most of the new ads start. The shelves are usually stocked with the loss leaders.

I usually make my 'large' shopping trip of the month either right at the beginning of the month or at the end. This is usually right after I make the menu plan and I prefer to go during the week.
On Mondays I make my weekly shop trips. These are too pick up sale items, milk, fresh fruit/veggies, bread, and items I may have missed. If nothing is on sale that I need/want, I stay home.Julie
