If money was no object?
If money fell from the sky and hit you on the head, say a million dollars, how much would it change your frugal ways? What tips have you learned here that would stay with you no matter what? What cost cutting tasks would you say goodbye to forever?
I almost forgot...
I would still reuse and not waste, make my own laundry detergent, but would buy more shrimp and use better cat litter. Maybe get some Botox for my newest wrinkle. I don't think much would change for me, but it probably would.Last edited by Buc-O-Mama; 11-18-2008 at 12:22 AM. Reason: Forgot something

Of course, I would travel more and spend more on education.Oh, yes, and get a REAL library instead of filling up all rooms with books. But I guess that's not what you meant?
I would pay somebody do do household work instead of doing it myself. I'd prefer to be able to concentrate more on the things I'm really good at - I am not really good at doing the dishes :-) It's hard work and deserves to be well-paid, so it's nothing that is likely to happen anytime soon :-)
I also would spend more money on food. Our food budget is painfully restricting. More money there would be very, very welcome.

First I would pay off debt and invest. Next I would love to travel with the family and see many parts of the world. I would also give to the charities that I believe in. Maybe eat better too!

I would pay off all our debt and stay that way. I prefer living simply. Maybe I would be able to start my own business selling my cookies and baked goods.

I would pay off our debt and finish the renovations on our house. I love my house and wouldnt buy new. My husband needs a new car and other than that I would invest it. I think I would try to eat better and instaed of botox...liposuction!! LOL....ok maybe I wouldnt....but definately more money in the food budget for better selections.

We would either repair the house or buy another - this one needs TONS of work and with the bad year I've been having (medical and financial) we haven't even done anything. I would get a new car - my Kia just messed up the engine this week.
I would still check sales flyers and use coupons. I would still sell Avon. I would still have a small car (kia, vibe, etc), but we would get a van too. I would probably have a clothes shopping spree - looking at clearance racks with DD. Maybe spending $500 each on the shopping spree. I would still shop at thrift stores - it's the thrill of the hunt. I would expand my garden next spring and buy a small tractor to help instead of paying someone to come and do things. I would also probably get a maid.

1) Pay off the house
2) Fully fund kids' college
that would free up more money so we could
a) eat out more often
b) take a real vacation
c) I'd have a massage monthly
d) dh would probably buy himself a cool car
That's it, I don't think the day to day would change too radically. I'd still be cookin' beans in the crockpot for dinner.Mom to Emma, Spencer, Connor, Lily,Fletcher, Amelia and Adeline.

~Wow, that would be nice. I'd probably keep our 800 square foot house and rent it out and move to a larger country house. I'd get my horse and buggy like I've always wanted and use it to run my errands. I'd probably hire a housekeeper to come in a few times a week too. I'd want to free up my time to homeschool my kids and do seamstress work. I really like simple country living without all the critters and gardening, lol. I could barter my skills for produce and animal products. DH would probably still work, just no OT. :-) Oh, this is not frugality related but if I'm a millionaire I'm building a dance studio on my property, just for my use. I've been dreaming about doing that for 15 years.~

Lets see - 1 Million, tax free, falling from the sky?
1) Pay off debt. That would take 344k, leaving 656000, and the rental property would be an income generating device of about 18k a year pre taxes..., so...
2) Buy 3 more similar properties, which would use up take no more than another 450k, leaving 200k or so in reserve and an income of call it 70k, which would be more than twice what we need, since we'd have no mortgage anymore, so live on say 30k, leave the 200k in reserve and invest the other 30k in more properties over time.
Yeah, that'd work. When's my money show up?
Awww, dang, you mean I have to earn it first??? Crap!If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Pay off debt and enlarge our living room. Buy a nice fishing boat.
Would probably still work and just sock it all away.

Not sure it would change much because I would invest it all for my future and my kids' futures. I might travel a bit more. However, a lot of my frugalness is not only to save money but to help save the environment. Since my environmental nature wouldn't change, I am sure my frugalness wouldn't change much.

I would pay off our debt so there would be no worries if there was a job loss for one of us. We would definitely max out our RRSP's every year to prepare for the future. If our debt was paid we would have much more disposable income. We would probably eat a little better, nicer cuts of meat, organic produce etc. Travel more. I'd get a housekeeper. Get the house fixed up just the way I want it.
One frugal thing I would give up is not running central air in the summer. To save money we only run our AC on the very hottest days in the summer. Maybe about 2 weeks total. If I had lots of money I would run the AC all summer and keep it super cold. I hate being hot.
I probably would not change some frugal habits because it would just kill me to think I was throwing money away. I would never go out and buy $400 shoes or $500 purse. I'd still be looking for deals lol

I would definately pay off our mortgage, that is top priority, then get a newer car (not brand new) but a fuel economic car.
Then I would probably go splurge a little on some primitives and antiques for my home but then save the rest.

My frugal ways would not change. I have too much fun with finding ways that I can save and make things go farther. I would stay in the same house that I am in now and would definitely pay that off along with any other debt that I have. I would also pay off my parents mortgage so that they can retire. Other than that I would probably put some money into expanding our small catering business take more vacations and then save the rest.

I'd take care of all those wishes I listed on the "20 wishes" thread.
Once I got my house remodeled to the way I want, I'd hunker down and never feel a need to go out again.
