Thanksgiving dinner
How much do you typically spend and how many people do you feed?
This is one time when I shop frugally, but spend more than I typically would. These days it's rare to get friends and family all together, so when we do, we celebrate with a lot of good food!
I think we are spending about $100 and feeding 12-15 people.

We feed 15-18 people and this year I've spent a total of $7.76 on the veggies....I bought my normal turkey last week at winco on my regular shopping trip and with a purchase of $50 or more you got the turkey for 28 cents a pound, mine came out to be like $9. and I had a coupon for $8. off butterball turkey heheheeee so the turkey cost me $1. ]
Then the veggies, and I make the stuffing from my home made bread and the pies from scratch from my halloween pumpkins so I am set, my Mom brings the ham and the green bean casserole and the dinner cost me less that $10.!
Now thinking about it has made me hungry!!!Proud wife to Randy

There will only be 6 or 7 of us (if the lady next door comes over whose hubby just passed
). I already got a 15 lb turkey for $5. We only every make the other basics. Mashed potatoes, stuffing (already have), some veggies, homemade gravy, and maybe this year we will try the green bean caserole thingy. I think we will spend a total of MAYBE $50 for the whole dinner with pies included.

There will be 8 of us and I think I'll spend around $50. I've already got the turkey cooked and carved and the dressing made and baked...it's all now in the freezer awaiting the day of.

This year I am feeding just the two of us. In the past we have had friends over the week before, and thus had two turkey dinners. I never skimp on the turkey, I get a fresh bird from a local butcher which gets them from local farmers. They cost about $2 a pound, so it can be $20-30. I never understood why someone would entertain and then buy the cheapest possible ingredients to serve. I'm not confusing that with getting a good deal and using a discount coupon and paying next to nothing. I'm just saying I would rather pay a fair price to a local farmer for a quality bird than save a few bucks on the cheapest frozen one I could find.
In years past I have spent up to $100 on dinner for 4 of us, if we have friends over. I like to do crab cakes, use pounds of pecans, have good imported cheese on the snack tray, etc. It's a once a year indulgence. But with DH out of work it's not happening this year.
This year it will probably be close to $50 for the two of us, as I know our turkey will be about $20. Everything else I need is in the pantry/stockpile already so it's hard for me to calculate prices of things I don't have to buy -- flour, fruit for pie, butter, stuffing mix, frozen cranberries, etc. That will feed us for about 5 days, though.

I spend about $40-$50 for the three of us. That seems like alot but in reality I usually have most of the things already on hand in my stockpile. Plus I have to make a pecan and a pumpkin pie always. And our grocery store always has a deal that if you buy a spiral ham (which run about $30) you get a 10 pound turkey free and I always take advantage of that deal and use the turkey for Thanksgiving and freeze the ham for Christmas . So really about $30 of the money is spend on the ham and turkey deal.

I think I will be spending about $40-$50 for only four of us. I make turkey w/ stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, pumpkin pies, and a broccoli, cheese & rice casserole. I also have a small cheese, cracker summer sausage tray and a small veggie tray to snack on as we eat later than most. We have tons of leftovers and my husband gets fed at work the following Fri-Sun (retail management). I did buy just a cheap turkey as I do every year. I have never had a dry turky. My turkey always turns out well no matter how little I pay for it.
