Default Heartwarming: Charities report little change in proceeds, despite bad economy

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27840397/
SEATTLE - As more Americans turn to charity amid worsening economic gloom, operators of food banks and other aid groups are relying on the surprisingly resilient generosity of their neighbors and finding that even when times are tough, people still give.
Even in bad times, we are a giving nation, and we give just as much when times are bad as when they are good. And more.

And, at the risk of being political, its stories like these that prove to me that the last thing Government needs to be doing is creating mandated charity. We're quite capable of telling when people need help, and giving it where it is deserved, on our own, thanks.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Thank you Greebo This story made my day.

My company just finished it's annual United Way drive and they not only matched what was raised last year, but increased by an additional 13%.

I am always humbled and amazed at the generosity of so many...not just in monetary ways, but with gifts of time and support. Its stories like these that make me believe that we will all be just fine if we just stick together.
