It was bound to happen eventually.
I think that this man's death will bring some order to this chaos... because now the insurance companies will demand it!
Some stores are more unruly than others, and these stores should pay for police presence (in my town, I've seen them at Best Buy). Wal-Mart, having a reputation for being chintzy, probably didn't want to pay
I always go out on Black Friday, but only to the "calmer" stores. I wait all year for these bargains. This year I dragged my dh along, and he enjoyed it!

I couldn't believe it.
Risking your life to go shopping doesn't really apply in this case though. This EMPLOYEE was risking his life to feed his family. One article points out that he was a temp, which really does not absolve anyone of responsibility in this case.
The people who became angry about having the store closed because someone was murdered...ashamed doesn't even come close.

I find it sad that people are so involved with getting STUFF that they forget about people.

Last year was the last time I will ever go out on Black Friday. Two older women were robbed in the mall parking lot and one lady was beaten over a fricken television! I took my 16 year old daughter with me and even she was getting iritated with the way people were acting.
I feel so bad for this guy's family. Walmart should be ashamed of themselves for even thinking that one single person could hold back a crowd like that. When the world knocks you to your knees, remember that your in the perfect position to pray.

I am appalled beyond belief at both the Walmart incident as well as the ToysRUs murders. I am normally critical of how litigious our society has become, but in this case I hope the family of that poor trampled man do get the best darn personal injury lawyer they can and go after Walmart with a vengeance. I hope the police identify some of the people responsible for breaking down the door while the poor man was still trying to unlock it, and try them for manslaughter, or breaking and entering, or something. I hope the idiots who didn't want to leave the store after the closing was announced, eventually find their conscience. I hope the police catch the ToysRUS killer(s) and try them swiftly for murder.
I hope these terrible tragedies are a lesson to all big box stores that Black Friday madness needs to end. Stop the 'doorbusters' and issue vouchers for the desired goods while folks are in line, with adequate security present so that those issuing vouchers can get the job done safely and fairly.
I wouldn't doubt that these same people willing to push and shove and trample a man to death for a 'great deal' on plasma tvs or digital cameras or $8 jeans or whatever, are probably squandering thousands of dollars a year on fast food, their SUV, Starbucks; expensive clothes, jewelry, books and DVDs. computer games and other consumer luxuries 11 months a year yet they are willing to act like animals on Black Friday and other pre-Christmas sales just to save a few bucks.

There is nothing in any store that I want that much. I feel sad for the mans family and for the people in Toys R Us that had to witness and be scared to death of the two idiots who shot each other to death

I think it's a real tragedy. I feel sorry for his family and his fellow employees. It's a shame how human nature can change a bunch of holiday shoppers into a pack of wild animals with frightening speed.
It's not just Black Friday that does it. I used to work in retail, and I have seen shoppers on the opening day of a sale get into fights over shopping carts and packages of toilet paper (I am not kidding!) and soap.Use it up, Wear it out,
