Post Office Box
I was looking online about renting a Post Office box and they have different sizes and prices
6 months 1 months
1 (3 IN X 5.5 IN) $10.00 $20.00
2 (5 IN X 5.5 IN) $16.00 $32.00
3 (11 IN X 5.5 IN) $29.00 $58.00
4 (11 IN X 11 IN) $49.00 $98.00
I'll just be receiving letters, would the smallest work for me?

I think a standard letter envelope is 8 inches. I could be wrong. However, I would get the small one still, because if you receive something that is larger than your post office box the Postmaster will put a little card in there telling you that you can pick it up at the desk.
So you will get your mail either way even if its too big to fit.

Just got back from a walk to the po where I get my mail.
Yep, regular letters would fit. Standard envelope is 3 5/8 x 6 1/2. The longer ones would just stick out the back of the box since they are open on that end. And like Megan said anything that doesn't fit they leave a card in the box for you to take to the window to pick up the bigger stuff. Just know what time the clerks window is open & pick your mail up then because it's no fun to have to wait if your expecting a pkg.
My po has cut back hours and the window is closed 2 hours in the middle of the day.

I would get the small one also. It will be sufficient for receiving letters and like the other ladies have said any thing that does not fit will be held at the desk for you to pick up.

My PO has boxes to accomidate larger things (such as packages) and they just leave a key to the specified box in my po box. I get a lot of samples and they just don't fit in the tiny box, so they leave me a key once a week or so. I say save wherever you can!

Heck, I'm trying to get OUT of the postal system. I hate it with all of my being. If I did not recieve payments for my home inspection business by mail from time to time, I would not have a mail box of any sort for any reason.
Between the poor service I recieve and the high price of postage, I have no use for the postal system.
That being off my chest:
If you have a need to participate in the postal system, why not use a box at home? They will bring the mail to you for free. You can't get cheaper than that! Plus you don't have to travel to the post office to collect your mail.
Just my two cents.

I hear ya 57plymouth.
We don't like the po either for various reasons & hubby is happily retiring from there in Feb. We live at the end of a long shared private driveway and don't want to ruin the look of the neighbors land by littering it with a mailbox. It's safer to get mail at the po and the walk is good for us. We too try to do as much as possible online to cut back on using the po as much as possible. In years to come the mail service is really going to be something, you are wise to use it sparingly.

We love our po boxes, and use them for two businesses that we don't want our home address associated with. Customers/Clients do not need to know where we live. I also use it for anything spam-like (coupon sign-ups/mailing lists, that kind of thing). I have the smallest one, the business has the next size up.
