There is nothing you can do. Quitting is the hardest thing in the world. Quitting is harder for smokers then it is for junkies to get off of herion. This is a proven fact. It may take a long time for him to calm down. Hugs to you

to be honest, dh had to start dipping...copenhagen snuff..you cannot do too much even if you are a long time smoker, itll make you sick. Just a little, then a little less.... then it was gone.

depending on which cigs he smokes, they could be harder than others, according to malboro, they add a chocolate concentrate to theirs in small quantities so that other ones taste really bad to you. So if you are quitting those, it helps to have a chocolate ever so often during the day.

There is actually alot you can do to help him! Right now, he needs to be supported no matter how he acts. When I quit, I was a super mega witch, and DH was great about it. I'd randomly stomp around and blame him for things that weren't his fault, and the best thing he did for me, was just to keep his mouth shut. As his way of supporting me, he chose to ignore me when I tried to argue with him. He later told me that he knew that wasn't "me", it was the stogie's talkin". I know it's hard to bite your tongue and ignore him, but do your best. It's the best way to deal with the mood swings until they are gone! And I promise you they won't last long, a few days, a week at most!

Congrats to him on making this decision!~ Tell him to stick with it no matter what! I've been smoke free since July, and while I've had some slip-ups, I just get back on the wagon and keep moving forward. Honestly, quitting smoking is truely the hardest thing I have ever done!

My DH tried to quit smoking back when YDS was born. It was so bad that I didn't want him around! When I quit smoking, it was when I found out I was pregnant so it was easier for me to quit. DH tried medication, but that gave him nightmares. He equated quitting smoking's withdrawal symptoms to what he experienced when he stopped smoking pot.

Maybe your DH can try the gum? What about hypnosis? Perhaps the patch strength isn't enough for him, especially if he was smoking something that's full strength.

if the patches fails try getting tablets, i dont know if you can get them in the US, probably, i dont see why not. you have them perscribed, its called Champix made by Pfizer, but they helped my BF quit smoking in only a few weeks and he hasnt smoked since June. It also helped another friend who has smoked for years to quit.
