Default What are some of the dreams you've had and not accomplished

I was listening to a radio commentary this morning and they were talking about a guy who was a real estate broker. He had always dreamed of being a kindergarten teacher and after years of being a broker, went to school and fufilled his lifelong dream.

I've always had 4 dreams (none accomplished as of yet).
~work at an orphange in a foreign country. (We adopted 3 special needs children and that was put on hold).

~own a quilting store (instead I quilt. This is still one dream I'd absolutely love to do if we had the cash.)

    ~own a book store

~raise English Springer spaniels. (I still might do this one if we move where it can happen.)

    What about you?

Funny that the story was of a guy always wanting to be a teacher. When I was growing up, that is what I wanted to be. I was very shy and timid when I was school age and I was scared to death of going off to a big college. So... I didn't. I went to the local technical school and became a cosmetologist. Doesn't really sound like a job for a shy, timid young girl does it? I think it helped to bring me out of my shell. I still sometimes wish I had braved the world and become a teacher. Both my DDs want to be school teachers. DD19 is attending college now, heading towards her dream of becoming a teacher. DD18 will graduate this year from high school and next year will embark on a journey to discover her dream of being a teacher. Maybe I can live it through them. But who knows... dreams can come true. You never know what the future holds.

I also wanted to have at least 6 children. I have my two DDs and I have a DStepS and DStepD. Two shy of my goal. I still think of adoption or foster parenting. Again, who knows what may happen.

I always wanted to go by ship to the British isles. .
Also, to take a ship to Hawaii. I found out it can be done on a cruise ship, but the cost is $$$$$.

My life has been blessed in many ways, and most of my dreams have been fulfilled far beyond my expectations. But I wanted a house full of kids, and God saw fit to only give us one. I want to cruise the rivers of Europe and haven't done that yet. And I want to publish a book. I have published stories, poems and articles, but not yet a book.

I am very thankful and content with everything that is in my life. I do have a couple of things that I would love to accomplish in my lifetime...

    - Get married
    - Have children
    - Being able to have enough business to work at my catering company full time

Like millions of other young pianists over the years, I had dreams of traveling around the world as a world-class pianist, teach at the most prestigious schools and play Carnegie Hall. As I got older, I found out that wasn't a very rational expectation, I wanted to have a real life with a family outside a practice room, and I didn't want to work that hard. LOL

I'm afraid my dreams aren't as noble as some of your's....I'm more selfish I suppose.

I've always dreamed of swimming (scuba diving) with a pod of dolphins in the wild.

I've always wanted to teach young stay at home moms how to cope better with the isolation and stress.

I've always wanted to travel to Australia and Europe for about 3 months or so.

I'd love to have the resources to perform ROAK's that would change a person's life, considerably.

Sometimes the dreams you have when you are younger change as you get older. I always wanted to be rich but I now have found the comfortable is fine. My dream now is to travel. I want to go everywhere. I would love to be able to travel full-time, guess I could do that if I was rich LOL.

I always say my dream retirement gig would be to work at Starbucks in Barnes and Noble, since my 2 favorite things are coffee and books. But I would probably get fired for sitting around drinking coffee and reading. So my goal is, to be financially able to spend retirement hanging out in Starbucks lol.

I also wanted a house full of children....God decided to bless us with 3 internationally adopted children.....the boys are special needs.

That's it. My dream was to be a wife and mommy - I've accomplished them both, thought not how I thought I was going to accomplish it (though exactly the way that God intended for me!)

I wanted to be an airline stewardess (or whatever the PC term for them is now). In retrospect I think I would not have liked it as much as I wanted to.

I wanted to sing. Stage fright put paid to that, though I do sing with the church choir and am looking for another BIG choir.

I wanted to be a Girl Scout leader and make a difference, however small, for girls. I'm living that dream and so much more: I'm also Co-Director for the day camp, and working on a few other volunteer positions.

    Hawaii. Could happen.

I wanted to adopt a retired greyhound. Done. My wonderful angel dog is sleeping on the sofa as I type.

I've always wanted close friends, but that's not going to happen. I'm too afraid of people to let anyone really close. (Somehow DH slipped past, and I married my best friend and soulmate. Lucky!) I understand more about myself and why I am the way I am, but don't seem to be making anymore headway than that. Folks, don't let your kids bully or be victimized by them. It really does inflict lasting damage.

A secret dream was to be the first person in my family with a masters degree, maybe even a Doctorate.

On the whole, I'm pretty darn lucky. I've got a decent life, wonderful children, and a strong marriage. You can't ask for more than that, really.
