Women--do you get upset over appliance/useful gifts from your SO?
I get a kick out of 'funny' commercials and ads designed to make women think they should be angry if they get an appliance or household gift from their SO/DH.
I'm not sure how I feel about it---I have been with DH 35 years, 30 married. Sometimes he has given me jewelry, perfume, clothing, froo-froo pretties...........and sometime he has given me an appliance, like my much-loved old Kitchen aid mixer, a food processor, or a Dyson vac. I haven't been angry, I was usually fropping hints! LOL!
Nowadays we give each other nothing. If we want/need something, we discuss it and then buy or don't. We've been together so long, and are just not so materialistic anymore. Plus we have just about everything we need after all this time, LOL.
Do you/would you get angry over appliance gifts or useful household things?______

The only time I ever got upset with DH over a gift was when for my first mother's day ever, he bought me the movie grandma's boy. Which is a movie he wanted to see. And was completely trashy.

I never get upset about a gift, esp. if it's useable. I even request kitchen appliances or things like that as gifts.

I would be mad as hell. Mixers, sweepers, stoves, refrigerators- those come out of the household fund. I like my girly gifts- jewelry, perfume, spa visits, and the like. I like to treat DH to a few little extras as well. I consider these things special treats, and I do not ever want that to fall by the wayside.Just what makes us "tick" together around here.

I actually *prefer* useful gifts. I'm not one for jewelry, perfume, spa treatments, etc. I don't even like to get clothes as gifts. I'd much rather get a new vacuum, kitchen aid mixer, digital camera, anything for my computer.
And definitely NO knick knacks. I hate those damn things. It's just more work for me...more things I have to dust.

I don't have a preference for either type of gift, really. I'll take what I can get, lol. Seriously though, this year I asked for a Kitchen aid mixer and I got it way early because we found a good deal. The only thing I'm missing out on this year is the element of surprise...I adore surprises and since I asked for my gift that went out the window....

If I've been dropping hints for it, heck yes.
I got a Kitchen Aid mixer and a Cuisinart Grind & Brew Coffeemaker (2 different Christmases).
Now if it isn't something I've asked for than maybe I'd be a bit miffed.

I don't know. I suppose it would depend on the gift. A kitchen aid stand mixer? Sure, I'd love one of those. A new washing machine? I'd be steamed.
I think it's a question of drudgery vs enjoyment. I might enjoy using a kitchen aid. I am never going to enjoy doing laundry.
DH is pretty safe though. He never gets me surprises. I always know what I'm getting.

Well I have been given every appliance you can imagine. Some of them I actually wanted and some of them not so much. If it's one I asked for I am trilled to get it, but if not them I would much rather have something girlie.

Same here. While I am 'touched' by the jewelry and 'pretties' he has given me, they sit up in my jewelry box or whatever. I might wear them to weddings and such. And my MIL is the queen of knick knacks. I have a curio cabinet and she has filled it, LOL!
I'm just glad we have the no-gift arrangement now.______

Like several others, I prefer useful gifts and DH knows that. I've never been a girlie-girl that needs to be pampered with jewelery and frilly things for holidays, when I want things like that I buy them myself throughout the year and that's a rare thing. I want something I can use that's practical. He's never given me anything I haven't liked or used. Some of the best gifts I have received are appliances big and small, cheap and expensive for the house, he's gotten me a new computer, new camera, etc. Things that will actually get used and not just sit around. That's what I want.

The exact opposite, I'm disappointed when I receive gifts that have no useful purpose. If I can't use it for something, then it's just cluttering up my space and making more work for me. He knows better.
I have a necklace that I haven't taken off in 5 years, I don't want any other jewellery. I'm allergic to perfume. I hate knick knacks. Clothing would be okay except that he always either overestimates or underestimates my size significantly. I just can't stand wasting money on things I won't use.

Heck no, I wouldn't! I LOVE getting new appliances or cooking type stuff. I don't need jewelry or anything, as I don't go out. Froo froo crap is useless to me.
