getting enough food
dunno what to call this or where to put it honestly...
sorta wanna complain...
i know i'm a super picky eater... probly one of THE pickiest...
dont eat meat, no dairy, no processed foods really, dont like eating in restaurants or around other ppl.
my fam loves pizza, ice cream, fast food... things i cant eat or have no options.
i get picked on incessantly how and what i eat.
not only do "I" make it difficult if we go out to eat somewhere - but i get picked on because I eat so little... "look she's got 20 grains of rice today! More than the other day"
i manage on a good day probably about 1300 calories - max.
and that's HARD to get!!!
I eat lotsa grains, legumes, veggies.. fruits for a "sweet" or dessert.
these foods simply aren't high in calories... well not like pizza! lol
So despite my vent up there... i'm a little concerned i dont get enough to eat.
maybe it's cuz i get made fun of for not eating like others... i dunno
does anyone else have this problem too?

I am right there with you. I hate almost every food there is. I sometimes don't eat because I am so picky, nothing sounds good and I just cannot even force myself to eat.
My husband and kids know how selective I am and don't give me a hard time about it. Normally DH will go way out of his way to make something he knows I will eat or go to certain restaurants or food joints that he knows have at least one item I will eat. If I get a craving for a food, he is quick to get that item for me.
Then there is my grandmother, she makes a comment about any and everything I eat. I decided a while back I would stop eating around her. All of our other family members know how her comments bother me and will hide me from her at family functions while I eat. As much as I love her, I would never go out to dinner with her. She would upset me beyond belief talking about my food choices.
I know I'm getting enough calories because my weight is pretty steady. I am more concerned that I am not getting enough of other nutrients.
Don't worry, you aren't alone. I totally understand where you are coming from.DD (19)

Life is too short eat what you like when you like how you like. JMO but your family sounds a bit insensitive to me. Tell them to hush unless they want you to make comments on their UNhealthy eating habits.

I'm sorry you guys have to suffer like that. JUST because you eat differently?! It seems so foreign to me, to go out of someones way to complain of someone else's eating! I can understand your mama doing, because they are moms... They always want to fatten you up for slaughter! LOL But regular people who are "supposed" to be your friends... That's pretty f'in sh#ty!

If you take a multi-vitamin daily and you feel healthy, I think there is no problem with what or how you eat.
Sometimes people get too concerned, at least you aren't living off of chocolate and potato chips! You are eating very healthy so I say.....no problem!Dh Bob

perSue - I can kind of relate. I'm not particularly a "picky" eater but I don't / won't eat just cuz' "it's time to eat" or if "there's food therefore we must eat" and yeah, I take a lot of *rap for it from other people. My friends, family, my mom, my sisters and my DBF. It's gotten to the point that I just won't eat around them, even if I am hungry. It's just exhausting trying to enjoy a meal when people are watching / commenting on you and your plate. It's humiliating.
My son is probably the only person I'll eat around. Work functions that require eating are truly agony.
My current goal is to eat once a day and get it over with. I know I'm getting enough calories as my weight is pretty stable.
I don't have a solution. I just want you to know that you're not alone.

I'm sorry you feel picked on. Unfortunately I suffer the opposite. I love almost everything. I can imagine the way you feel is similar to the way an overweight person feels when they eat. My only solution is that everyone should just mind there own.
Some foods you might be able to eat to add some calories to your diet might be nuts? What about putting olive oil on your grains? I don't know.

What about "bars"? I will buy Balance or Luna bars or the like and keep them around. If I can't find anything that I want to eat or I am somewhere where I won't eat anything, I eat a bar. I also tend to forget to grab lunch for myself when we go to activities. I always have a few bars in my "activity bag".
I am overweight and people just think I am on a diet when I eat a bar. Usually, they have a lot of fiber and, if people are nagging you about it, you can just tell people that you are trying to get more fiber in your diet.Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

1300 calories is not bad. As long as you feel healthy and not always tired and sick, I think you're fine. If you're really worried, a multi-vitamin might be good to take.

I just thought of another question in my mind, perSue.....
Are you thin? Incredibly thin? Skeleton thin? If not, what is their problem? Maybe it's just 'their way'. My dh likes to comment on anything I do that's 'different'. I just ignore him, because it's just his way. Annoying sometimes, but his way, LOL.______

I understand how you feel. Most of the time, those who push me to eat, or critique my weight , food choices, or portion size have their own weight and food issues they should be addressing. Not focusing on me, as I am healthy.I know how miserable I used to feel.I finally said, "No, I am NOT too thin. You are too fat.I know best for me."Some people are much less vocal now, and I can enjoy my meals.

I agree with the "overweight" version of this. You would be surprised how many people try to tell me how to eat. Tell them to MYOB.

1300 calories doesn't sound too bad and it sounds like you are eating healthy calories and not junk, you may want to find a way to sneak in a bit of protein if aren't getting enough and a multivitimin.
If you are not extremely and unhealthy thin and you are healthy then people just need to let you be.. I am not sure how you make it difficult when going out to eat unless there have been places by passed that the majority wanted to go to, then I can see people getting a bit testy and making flippant remarks in the moment because that is kind of human nature. If this isn't the case then again they need to let you be.
One last thing, do you think that your family thinks that you are not healthy i.e. very under weight and are concerned and instead of sitting down and just putting this on the table, they make off colored remarks because it is less hard for them?
I'd say that all things considered, you are a nice person and if they aren't upset for your health, it would be nice for them to lay off.

aww thanks everyone for your replies.
to answer a few questions, nope i'm not super duper thin... never really thought that "look" was hot or anything. if anything i could stand to lose a couple, but i'm not complaining... just a woman! LOL
i've gotta underactive thyroid, so i've gotta watch what i eat anyway, and can gain weight super easily, so i'm active (in a lazy way) & eat relatively well.
i just think it's hard sometimes to get enough calories - maybe it's me thinking too much - but i graze all day long, i eat smaller portions, but that's what "I" enjoy.
When we go out to eat somewhere, i end up ordering a salad... and I can put away a LOT of salad - my plates tend to rival others (at buffets especially!). LOL
So, I guess it's being compared to those tall stacks of plates at buffets or huge portions at other places.
I do take vitamins... lots of 'em and feel pretty good most days.
And the energy/protein bars I've JUST gotten introduced to... some are a bit expensive but I wanna try some. That sounds like a great idea.
Thanks for the support and taking me seriously.
It's appreciated.
