Waiting...
Monday and Tuesday we had bad weather. The roads were bad but they held school. Yesterday I waited till 6:45 to get ready and got all the way there to find they finally cancelled it around 7am. Now its that time again and all the schools around us are closed, just like yesterday.... I don't want to waste another 60 mile, round trip. At least yesterday I was able to pick up some baking supplies.
I made peanut brittle, 2 batches of hard candy, fried pasta and puppy chow. Maybe I'll be lucky and get some cookies done today???

That has happened to us a couple of times too, but luckily for us it is a very short drive! Last year, they cancelled school on a beautiful day, becuase they "thought" there was a storm coming.
I've always thought that if they are going to cancel school, they should do it by 5 or 6 am, so they can get the word out!

I don't blame you, I would wait too. That is a lot of miles to be a wasted trip, better to just wait and see if they have school or not. At least you would only be late a little instead of wasting the trip.
Hang in there, this weather is something. We are under winter storm warnings here this morning....so I know we are in for it. I hope the plows get out soon as the roads are all nasty!

When the schools cancel around here, they announce on the local TV stations and online very early in the morning, and often the night before a storm. Is there somewhere you can check before getting the car?

Same fix here. We didn't have school the first three days of this week because of the ice on the back roads. The radio stations didn't carry it, or didn't carry it in time. What we do is go to the school's web site, where they post the info on school closings.

I would wait til later than call the school and see if there is any for that day. Even if your children are late it is better than wasting the time, money for gas, your safety and your peace of mind.

They do a very decent job of listing elementary/middle/high school cancellations a few different ways..radio, tv. But at DD found out a few times that her college isn't always so quick on the draw. She would drive in there just to find out classes were just cancelled..livid, oh boy was she livid...sputtering about how could they not take into account that not everyone can just trudge back to their dorm but rather had to get back on the road in the snow.

We ended up having school but that was ok. We had an 'open book' test and then did absolutely nothing. Today was suppose to be the last day but since we'd already taken our test, the teacher got the ok for the adult students to not come in. We work a lunch over the lunch hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday so we are excused! Yippee!!!
I think I'm going to try to get the house cleaned today and then bake the rest of the weekend. Hopefully I will get the tree up.
