We fretted and we sweated.....
Yesterday Dad and I went to the nearest town for groceries and to run some errands, etc..... . Just as we got into town I started hearing a 'noise' in his car. It sounded like something metal dragging. Well at first he couldn't hear it and then when he could he got really edgy about it. We made about 4-5 stops and everytime we'd start moving again it was 'well I don't know what it could be, is it a brake dragging? is it a wheel bearing....? well I just don't know. It's getting worse....I don't know whether or not to drive it home....I don't know what it is....'. We drove it home but slowly and so tense you couldn't drive needle in our backsides with a sledge hammer, watching the gauges, listening, straining to hear...... . Sssoooo we pull up in my driveway and I bend down to see what's falling out from under the car and there it was. Plain as day. A daggumm tumbleweed!!! I was about half ticked and half thrilled.
Thank goodness that's all it was but boy howdy did we fret and sweat over the dang thang. I was physically tired from being so tense. Oh well, I guess I burned a few extra calories I hadn't counted on burning....eh?

I am so glad it was basically nothing. But, you know, I have done the same thing. It was like a big rock stuck in a set of new tires or something stupid like that.

Too funny. I started reading your post to my hubby since he is a mechanic (and I thought I could help you in some way) then I get to the part with the tumbleweed and I started cracking up.. DH just rolled his eyes, giggled and said "That's women for you!" Don't worry I slapped him for you and all women out there for that comment!!

Lisa, glad it was only a tumbleweed. Car expenses at Christmas time (or any time for that matter) aren't good.

Phew! It's so rare that those weird noises in the car don't end in a high price tag! Actually, if I might highjack I have a funny similar story. We had this old minivan that had a loose belt so every once in a while it would make a chirping noise. Well dh drove the van to work one day (he works in a classified area) so as he was going through the security gate one of the guards said "Hey you have a bird in there!" dh just smiled and waved it off thinking they were talking about the chirping noise. He went through two more gates and two more guards said the same thing. Dh is thinking this is weird but whatever. He gets to his building and parks the car and there stuck in his grill is a HUGE hawk. He was first of all mortified that he had killed a hawk and second of all embarrassed that he drove all over the place with this huge bird sticking out of the van! Glad your story had a good ending as well!!

Glad that's all it was! You have to admit it's pretty funny in hindsight though.
