Default What a day at work

Today is an even duller than usual Sunday at the library. For the last two or three hours, the librarian to patron ratio has been 1:1 and the librarian (me) on the first floor and the patron (a medical student) holed up in a study room on the second floor. Absolute silence and solitude.

My co-worker will come in at 6. I ought to call and tell him he doesn't have to come at all if he doesn't want to, but it's better to close with two. But by 7 or 8, the ratio will probably drop to 2:0. Guaranteed to be that by 11 pm.

    Why are we even open??

How late are you open? I can't imagine being open that late on a Sunday!

Sounds kind of nice to me. I'd love a job where I could sit in a room full of books all day and not be bothered!

Oh how I wish our library was opened on Sundays. I'd love to be working where it's nice and quiet. I'm sure though, you'd rather be home and that makes perfect sense too.

Ya, I know what you mean. When it is slow at work it makes the day drag on and on.

Actually it is a totally wonderful job. But yes, when it's this quiet I would rather be home - except that I'm not paid to be home. And my prediction was right. We had a few straggling in and out, but the last one left around 8:30 and I doubt anyone else will show up tonight. I'm probably just impatient because I start about 2.5 weeks of vacation tomorrow and I'll already in holiday mode.

We're open every night until 11 (I always work the evening shift), except on some holidays and a few days around Christmas/New Year's when we close at 5:00. It's the library for the medical school and all the students are off, and they are the majority of our visitors nights and weekends, which is why it's so dead now. But we don't completely shut down except for a few days a year, because the doctors and hospital staff also use it.

Wow, I work for the library at our Med School too, but i'm lucky and i'm in the ILL department. We will be closed from Dec 24th until January 5th...and they are paid bonus days! Our Circ staff has to work, but they get to take the days is comp time over the next few weeks!
We are dead here too though, so I know what you mean!
