Question Does Anyone Else Need to Spend Money???

Just wondering if this is the norm. I can find myself sinking into a bit of the blues if I go for too long without spending money. Now I don't mean irresponable spending, I mean the being too broke to spend a dime, so even the most frugal of purchases are not happening. I can find myself sinking into the blues that are easily lifted when I spend a bit of cash. It does not need to be for anything more than dollar store shampoo or a tube of toothpaste. It seems so odd to me and I wonder if it's a psychological thing?

I go through that too. I have no idea why. Not spending is actually pretty easy, you know. You'd think that I'd be okay with being super-frugal all the time. But I get itchy and frustrated and end up going to McDonald's or the grocery store to buy something totally unnecessary and unhealthy, sabotaging myself by making myself chubbier and poorer.

Normally I can do okay if I keep things in perspective and remember that the next budgeting period and the next budget refill are just around the corner.

I get the itch to spend, too.

I go through the same thing. A $20 shopping spree at Dollar Tree usually does the trick, lol. I'm trying to be better about the money I'm spending nowadays.

I get the itch to spend money at the thrift store. I love finding something, but I really don't need anything there.. for me it is an addiction.

I'm with ya. I haven't spent anything on me in a long long time and the other day for a Christmas gift I bought a sweater and a new purse. I have felt really good since...thanks for letting me know it's not uncommon. I was really thinking I must be awfully shallow but it looks like I'm in good company.

I think some of it has to do with the gathering and hording aspects of human nature.

I could not agree more. For me it is food and other things around the house. It just makes me feel better to have the things we need to get by on.

I agree with the hoarding aspect so that you feel you have something of "value." I also think it has to do with emotional instant gratification as a picker upper. Unfortunately, the effect quickly dies.
