I saw this. The woman whose money it was did not even give them some kind of reward. Not even a g.c. or anything.

Maybe the person who the money belonged to couldn't afford to give them a reward but she sure could have given them a personal thank you.

So? Think about what you're implying here - an old woman, who's total life savings was $10,000, who doesn't know how long she has to live on that meager amount, is somehow obligated to give something beyond what I'm sure was an immense sense of gratitude to the people who returned her lost money to her?
So -- she should starve to death, sooner, as thanks to the kind and honest people? If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I think the old woman should have written them some kind of a thank you note. And I think its awesome that the family turned it back in!
However, I found it kinda sad that the old lady didn't trust her money in bank (even though the money fell well within the limits of FDIC insurance) but she found her money to be safe in a cracker box.McD

An act of kindness is truly that, a simple act of kindness. If someone expects something in return for that act, than really it's not an act of kindness but a means to get something. IMHO.
I agree she does not have the responsibility to give anything to this family, however a simple "thank you" would have been nice. That being said, maybe she didn't even know who returned the money to thank them and was just told the police recovered it from a family that found it. Maybe their name wasn't known to her until this article came out. There are both sides to every story.

Obviously if these people were so concerned about getting a present they wouldn't have returned the money in the first place. When someone returns such a huge amount of money without a second thought you would kind of expect something in return just because that woman was so close to losing her money and the only thing that prevented it was the honesty of this family. There's no need for you guys to act all offended just because some people are surprised that the old lady didn't give them a reward.
Honestly though it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even get a thank you. This woman put $10K in a damn cracker box and then accidentally returned it to the store. This isn't a heartwearming story about a family's honesty- it's a heartbreaking story about an elderly woman who's so far gone that she could so something like this. Seriously- does she have kids? Someone needs to be seriously evaluating her situation.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

The article said there was no reward. The article, as far as I recall, did not even suggest the family wanted one.

That was nice of the family to return the money. I consider myself to be a good and generous person but I have to be honest, I do not know if I would have returned the money to the store. Good for them. As far as reward goes, just because someone returns something does not "entitle" them to a reward. And I agree with a previous post, the woman obviously seems like she is not "all there" so I do not believe good graces escaped her as much as she may not have known who returned it or something to that effect. It is sad that she is in that state that she would do such a thing.
