    Question Aprons...

Curious, how many of you wear them and if so, what is your preference and why? I just found my grandmothers and mothers old ones and found they REALLY cheer up the drudgery of everyday housework (not to mention help keep the clothes clean). I was thinking of making a couple of new ones. I found this link to free apron patterns. Opinions? Take care and God bless.

I love aprons! My gran made us all aprons a couple of years before she died and I love it. Plus I have several others that I have from preschool. I "retired" and brought them home, they are seasonal and fun to wear.

I'm an instructor/manager of a cooking school for kids, so aprons are part of my wardrobe on a very regular basis. I like to use them at home too, especially ones with pockets. They look pretty hanging on a hook in the kitchen too.

Funny you should post this, I've been thinking lately about making some cheerful aprons for myself & my dd's. I always wear an apron when baking, I forget to wear it when cooking & invariably slop things, which leads to my clothes wearing out faster than I'd like.
    Thanks for the reminder!

I have one apron that I sometimes wear. I find that when I pull it out and use it I get twice the work I intended to get done. I think the apron lifts my spirits and makes me feel very domesticated!

I only wear aprons when baking and for the occaisonal big dinner. If I dont I find myself covered in flour and or grease splatters. So I guess for me its more of a protecting my clothing thing. I do not wear for household chores. I do love wearing them though and wish I was crafty enough to make a really frilly pretty one.

Me too. I don't know why but I get twice as much done with an apron on.

I love aprons, especially the fancy vintage style ones. Being a woman of *heh hem* larger stature, I haven't had any luck finding them to fit or even patterns for making them.

I have thought about trying my hand at making them. It's just a matter of finding the TIME.

I do have one butchers style apron, bright yellow with a red chili pepper print, that I wear for cooking. I should wear it more often so my clothes last longer.

I really like them (full aprons, not the 1/2 size ones), but I really only wear them if I'm doing a lot of baking or cooking something where I might have grease splatters. I would wear one for all my cooking if I remembered. I don't wear them for other household chores.

I'm not the most coordinated person in the world. And still I get food on the counter and floors, but never on myself.

I always wear one when cooking with tomato sauce or flour, otherwise not generally. I also am a cook for our church and prepare a weekly meal for about 70 people and I always wear an apron for that. I only have one at home but the church has several and I've found that I definately have a favorite- not to frilly, not too worn out that I prefer.

Several years ago, I asked my sis (think Martha Stewart) for a "full body" apron that covers my chest. She sent me one that is made of duck cloth, with pockets, that the back tie wraps around to the front and has a "halter" behind the neck. It's been sent back for repairs and I'm probably going to send it back again soon, for more repairs.

I was at her house cooking dinner this year. It was a very messy affair that involved flour, kneading, boiling and frying. I told her I needed an apron. She pulled one out and put it on me! It still had starch on it! I was shocked and asked her if it was new! LOL! No - That's "Martha". I only wash and dry mine. I never even thot of starching it!

I love my apron. When I put it on, I feel like I'm in "work" mode so I don't necessarily get more done, but I'm more consience (sic) about it.

Yes! Always. Kind of like my uniform. I had them made by a lovely Menonite lady. They are beautiful, very Amish. I often wear long dresses too. My husband think I look like a hot Amish girl! He's so silly.

Yes, I have several and always wear them when I'm cooking or baking. I've made all of mine, and need to make a couple more. When you wear them they get dirty - much like dish towels, always looking for a clean one!

I have 'big plans' to make one special for while I'm cleaning, but I don't like cleaning so I haven't made it yet

I did make two for dd's bridal shower in October. They were a hit.
