Where would you NOT want to live?
We had family come in from coast to coast for Christmas, and it got me to thinking about all the places in the USA where our family is scattered. We travel a lot and I've visited many of these areas.
End result of thinking was that I felt blessed to live where I do. And I also thought about the places where I do NOT want to live.
I would not want to live in:
1. California. Seems too dry and brown, too expensive, and too crowded.
2. Louisiana. Too muggy/humid.
3. New England. Beautiful to visit, for sure, but seems to be very expensive.
Most of the places I would NOT want to live are on my list because of expense, crowded conditions, or climate.
How about you? Any particular places where you would not want to live? Why?Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.
Financial:
Debt free, hoping to stay that way!

3. Lose weight. Hopefully 5# this year. (9.5 pounds right now! Yay, Me!!)
4. Continue to be looking for how God wants to use me this year.

Well I have already lived where I didnt want to thanks to the US Army and that was in Puerto Rico. We lived without running water for 6 months. Anywhere that has clean running water is doable though not always perferable

I honestly can't think of anywhere that I've been that I would NOT want to live. I think I would give just about anywhere a shot! Maybe Nebraska ( no offense to those who live there, I'm sure it's lovely!), out in the country it smelled like pig farm. After growing up on a pig farm, I never want to live near that smell again!

I would not want to live anywhere outside of the USA. There is no place like home. I've been to Mexico, and Canada and that was enough to tell me I'm right where I belong. Canada is beautiful but too too cold. Mexico is a whole other world. As far as states go I've been to most and of the one's I have been to, I'll pass on the northeastern states, Arkansas, and Texas. I like the change of the seasons in the Midwest, but it has always been a dream of mine to live in Montana and I've never been there so I don't know where this desire comes from. I will say every state has something to offer as far as visiting. I have no desire to even visit another country.

DH knew that a move was coming but wasn't sure where. He asked where I wouuld not want to live and my #1 choice was where we ended up, Las Vegas. DH was transferred here by the company he worked for at the time. I was so concerned about raising are dd's here. When my dh told me this is where we would be moving he tried to make the transition as easy as possible for all of us. We moved within 3 weeks of being told, so needless to say he picked the house we leased. He was so considerate of are needs. When he came looking for are new home he called from every house, it was like I was with him he explained the layouts so well. He also told the realtor that the school district was the top priority. I have to say he did a wonderful job! He picked one of the best school areas and a beautiful home. He brought pictures back of the house we would be living in as well as the school the girls would be going to. He took a picture of the nearby park and other things in the area. We have been here 9 years now and all is well. Las Vegas has turned out to be a very nice place to live. This showed me that you really don't know a place until you have spent some time there. I would be open to anywhere.

Wouldn't want to live anywhere too far north. I despise winter and the winters here are bad enough for me.

I lived in California for 6 months. I would never want to live there again. I'm from the NE part of the USA in the country. I missed the trees so much I thought I'd burst when I finally got back home and could wrap my arms around my favorite childhood tree. A giant Weeping Willow. I missed the seasons, the colors of the leaves, the brisk air. The first heavy snow and being stuck at home for a day or two because of closed roads, I missed the flowers breaking threw the freshly laid snow defying the weather and the blooms saying Spring is just around the corner. I missed the Summer heat and the sounds of kids big wheels and bike spokes with game cards clicking as they spun.
California was full of cement yards. Lots of neighbors. We got our car stolen. I was grabbed by a pimp and yanked by my arm and dragged until someone stepped in and saved me (wrong place, wrong time, only 16!) Witnessed my first and only "whatever" by the satanic church-all dressed like monks carrying torches, chanting, about a hundred or so of them walk right past me down the beach at night-REALLY FREAKY!!!!! Some elderly neighbor that I felt sorry for and used to stop and talk to when he and his even more elderly mother were out in their yard tending their roses turned out to be crazy and trapped me in my house and chased me around. I finally escaped unharmed but made this little farm girl real afraid of big city life. I don't ever want to go back there again!

Mickey311, that baby is just so cute. What a priceless picture.
I would not want to live anywhere but Canada. IN Canada I would not want to live in Toronto or in Quebec.

Dh and I have an understanding and both agree:
No offense to anyone in these areas.....
California
Utah
Texas
Those are absolute NOs. Large metro cities on the west coast (Seattle, Portland) NO. (he was offered Portland a year before the promotion to the position he has now)
Dh is from MT and I'm from E. WA state...so Idaho is a happy middle ground for us. We would consider CO, AK, MT.....neither of us care for the south at all.Stinkbug

I live in California. To say California is dry and brown and overcrowded is like saying Florida has too many tourists. Yes, if you live in Disneyland. No, if you actually spend a little time in the rest of the state. California has crowded cities, but also has HUGE areas that are VERY rural, and thousands of acres that are protected and will remain wild, hopefully forever. And if you think it is dry and brown, you need to spend a little time on the coast or up in the mountains.
Yes, it is more expensive to live in California than in, say, the midwest. But having traveled to just about every one of our fifty states, I am more than willing to pay more to live here. I believe it is typical supply and demand: if California didn't have so much to offer, people wouldn't be willing to spend as much to live here.
I will say that I have really enjoyed my travels, and that I have found things that I loved, even in places that I never ever want to return to (ahem, Brunswick, Georgia, for example). If circumstances forced me to move out of this state, I suspect I would grow to love anywhere I was "plunked" down.
So, that said, I can't offer a sweeping condemnation of any one state and say that there is any one place I would absolutely not live, but I can say that I prefer to live where I do for specific reasons. I love that I don't have to worry about tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes. I love being in a rural setting, surrounded by deer and turkey (and the occasional mountain lion), and being where I can see the stars at night and hear the songbirds waking up in the morning. I love being within a day's drive of a major cultural center (San Francisco) and within a day's drive of either the ocean or the mountains or huge redwood forests. I love that I live in a state that is typically very open-minded (although I'm still stunned and bitterly disappointed that Prop 8 passed) and accepts/embraces all cultures and races. I like the Pacific Ocean better than the Atlantic, because I love the wildness of the Pacific, and I love good food, of which Sacramento and San Francisco has more than I could eat in a lifetime.
Put me somewhere like that, anywhere in the country, and I could be happy.

Anywhere that's cold. I LOVE Missouri, but I've noticed I dislike the winter months more and more every year. Unfortunately, some of the most beautiful states have nasty winters.

I wouldn't live in BC or Alberta (no offense, lived there, bad memories), Quebec (crazy drivers and I can't speak French) or any northern territories (too cold), and wouldn't live in the middle east, Asia, Africa, the US, Mexico or South America (too dangerous).
Basically I would only want to live in Europe, Australia, or (preferably) Eastern Canada.
