I'm getting a new bed!
And I'm excited about it! My current mattress and box spring are 12 years old and trust me when I say they are ready to go! (Grandpa's hammock, anyone?) My frame is actually an old futon frame.
We got our tax refund and stimulus just last week. Yeah, I know. Long story short, we filed a special form which put our return on the back burner and because of the huge workload involved in sending out the stimulus payments they back burner'ed it even longer.
Anyways, that's how I'm paying for most of it, and cash-flowing the rest. We went and tried out a bunch of mattresses on Sunday. I picked out a nice mattress with a memory foam pillow-top and boy is it nice! The warranty is pretty good, if there's any problems in the first 5 years they'll replace it No Charge, and from 5-10 years they pro-rate the price. Thats one of the main reasons we purchased from this store. But I don't get it until 1-8-09 because I'm getting a low profile box spring and they have to get it from the warehouse north of here and with the holiday and all I can't get it delivered until then.
I've already bought all the linens, pillows, and mattress cover (necessary because I'm changing sizes).
I haven't had a decent frame in 15 years so I'm ordering this frame tomorrow:

The mattress and box spring are definitely a need. The frame is a want.
So Merry (late) Christmas to me!!“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Good for you. I can relate to making due with something for so long. Then, when you replace it, it is the greatest feeling in the world.

Great way to use your tax refund! We just bought a "real" bed a couple months ago (we had been sleeping on a futon). It is wonderful, you will be so happy you bought it. And I'm sure you will get much better nights sleep on it.

I am soo envious! I won't be able to replace my mattress ( yes just mattress no box spring ) until my tax return comes back. I just need the new matress and boxspring but I want a new frame too. Not sure if that's going to fit into the budget, but like you i'll be getting a better night's rest!!

How wonderful! What a gorgeous bed!
I've been looking for an antique four poster bed for what seems like forever. I guess I'll know the perfect one when I see it. One day . . .
