Looking for a knitter
I would like a nice cardigan to wear around the house in my college's colors. I don't knit, my wife doesn't knit. I have not found anything heavy in the right color for less than a fortune.
Does anyone knit here that would take a commision job like this?
Am I out of my mind again?

No offense, but yes, you might be out of your mind.
It would take many hours (days actually) to handknit. Even if I or someone else made one on a hobby knitting machine instead, it would still take up to a day to knit and assemble. Throw in the cost of a good quality yarn (which is far from cheap these days) and even if someone agreed to be paid well under minimum wage for the commission, it would still cost a small fortune and probably more than the ones in the stores.
Sorry to be a pessimist.

I knit both, hand and machine.
What you are asking for maybe a bit pricey.
Do you want regular acrylic yarn or wool ?
If you go wool, remember, it will need to be dry cleaned.
If you find someone to do this, you will need to pay for the yarn before any work can get started on it. Then it will depend on your size. The bigger the size, the more yarn needed and the more time involved.
Cardigan, I am assuming you want a sweater that buttons down the front. No pattern, I am guessing, just more than one color.
Have you priced yarn yet ?
I have made sweaters by hand quite awhile ago. Currently I have been machine knitting and did make a sweater last week, but a small one. I was just practicing though.
I did do a custom job for a poncho for a lady a year ago.
Some pictures of my work are here.

I guess I'm crazy.
I know it will be time consuming and expensive. But if I'm going to pay for something, I want something well made. Which I cannot find in a store.

PM and I will try to throw some more thoughts around with you. Anything is possible

I just recently joined a knitting club so I may be able to get some help from other members.Last edited by ladytoysdream; 01-02-2009 at 08:54 AM. Reason: more info

I can hand knit sweaters but not sure of how much to charge for one. I think I am going to make myself one and see how much time is involved.
This is the pictures of two children sweaters that I made a long time ago.

I am hoping to learn how to make sweaters on my machine. I have made one so far, but it's quite a simple pattern. I have been making knitted hats this winter for the grandkids. I guess I need to make another photo album of them for online viewing.
