Starting the year off right
Well hubby and i started working on the basement today. I slept in since the grandbaby kept me up.
he is 15 months and teething. But any how we hauled 3 trash cans full of stuff to the trash.
Its packed full of stuff. I did ebay alot and i have lot of stuff i never got on there. I have 4 totes full of vintage linens, around 15 totes of vintage spiral cookbooks, 4 totes of carnival glass, around 200 collectors plates, with boxes and certificates.Thats just in a small room. Another room is all holiday items ect. We have a large laundry area, my craft room is packed full, we started working on that last year, walls and shelfing are up and hard wood floors. Basement stays dry. I some how managed to store all the grandsons baby stuff plus daughters maternity clothes and they dont even live here.I have totes of kids clothes that need to go to the local church clothing room. I could go on and on.
During the summer we rented one of the bubba dumpsters, they are huge, we cleaned out maybe 50% of the barn, plus a room in the basement. We are needing to rent another one this summer. They are $ 400 for 2 weeks. But what other choice did we have since they have junk day 1 time a year and they will only let you set stuff on the curb a few days prior. But any how. We will manage to de clutter this year.If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal. Not to
people or things.

My goal for my 2 weeks I have had off was to get us organized. With 2 little ones and everything else, that sure was a lofty goal! I had visions of swooping in and having a perfectly organized house in the blink of an eye. LOL!!
Well, it seems that in order to get more organized, sometimes things have to look a little chaotic on the surface. I have set DH to finishing up our oldest sons room (priming and painting one last wall) and to finishing the painting in their bathroom, fixing the toilet seat, and maybe the floor.
On my part, i have organized and decluttered the cabinets, rearranged the living room and bedroom, decluttered and organized the desk so it is now "bill central" instead of a junk pile. I am doing a weekly menu now, so it will be easier to shop and also easier for DH to cook during the week (he is a stay at home dad) since he has ADD and loses track of...everything.
I go back to work Monday, and am DETERMINED to sew the sheets I bought yesterday into curtains for our bedroom, as well as fix the ones we have in the living room. I also need to find an organization/storage soulution for my oldest sons room....I'm hoping I can get everything accomplished!

It really does, Nana...sometimes it feels like trying to swim backwards or something. I don't think there are enough hours in the day when you have little ones...

I'm in declutter mode too. The first room was the sewing room.
WTG on starting the year right.

i am decluttering too! only babysteps for me...lol my neice moved to her first apartment. i cleaned out all my pans and gave her at least half of what i had......yeah!!! i also gave her a table i had in the cellar that dh had refinished. it was gorgeous, but i never did have room for it and couldn't just get rid of it.......that is my MAJOR PROBLEM....if it isn't truly junk.....i can't let it go.....

so my son brought his 55 gallon fish tank that he dissasembled and stored it in my cellar.............one step forward, one back.........please keep encouraging me girls.......lolLast edited by rosey7415; 01-03-2009 at 03:01 AM.

I also am working on decluttering. We've been trying to fit too much in a very small home.
As it is our dining room is our computer room, son's school room, and has our son's wardrobe, and his bookshelf. And a shelf of linens.
Our living room has our living room furniture, our dining room furniture and my husband's small office set-up.
Our bedroom is so cramped that there is no room for my things so I'm making the tiny spare room in our house a dressing room/closet/sewing room. Which will be a tight squeeze, it really is a very tiny room. That is my decluttering focus right now. I need to make that space my own. Decluttering my entire house is my goal for 2009.

I'm in kind of a different decluttering model; I am helping new DBF get rid of his storage unit. This means getting rid of some stuff, but that also means bringing in to his apartment some extra furniture that he really didn't have room for. I guess when it gets into the apartment, he'll be able to better decide what he's gotta get rid of and what stays. He has sold a gun cabinet and given an antique family heirloom dresser to his granddaughter. Getting rid of the storage unit will save him $30 a month so I guess that's a frugal step for the new year.
BTW: Does anyone know anyone that wants to buy a round bed -- yes, I said round bed. I thought those were only found in sleeeezzzy and cheap motel rooms, but he actually has one that was his ex-wife's and now he's storing for his son in his storage unit...LOL. It's hilarious, really, I had never seen one before. Anyway, just had to add that.Kim

I've been hard at work on this sort of project as well. Thus far we've moved our school stuff out of the dining room into the spare room downstairs. It was supposed to be a playroom/craftroom, but really it was just a pit of despair. The sort of room that could be messy, have the door closed and nobody go into it for weeks. No more!
The dining room is a dining room. The kitchen no longer has a table (we need it for school work downstairs) and I've got lots of plans, schemes, ideas for finishing what we've started. I also have a whole bunch of stuff to sort for an e-bay garage sale. Curriculum, some collectors dolls.

I am taking a week's vacation in a couple of weeks and plan to clean and declutter the house from top to bottom.
This site is responsible!
This is the first time I've ever
taken vacation just to clean house, but I'm looking forward to it.!
