Default Ok now own up !!

In a great effort to become better organized in 2009 I sorted out my 'orphan' sock drawer yesterday.
    OMG!!!!!!

I am not exaggerating I had at least 50 orphaned socks.
Now don't worry - there socks will get a good home in my cleaning box (ideal for cleaning shoes or polishing silver etc.)

But now I just want to know - who took them?????
Or is this a conspiracy of a murphy cousin to make us buy more socks?

    LOL! That was cute!

Well I guess we all have that problem except for my mom, who always used to use a mesh lingerie bag to do our socks. She was a smart lady! We never lost our socks. Wish I took the time to follow in her footsteps

I wish I knew. I just spend a ton of money on socks right before Christmas, and already there is a whole new crop of widows and orphans. The lingerie bag might work, except I'm not convinced they are actually getting down the laundry chute in pairs. I bet if I made the kids spend their own money on socks it'd change reeeeeaaallly quick!

Used to have quite the sock box going when the kids were growing up.

Now for hubby I buy him for work, plain white socks and when one gets a hole in it, gets thrown out, and can easily mate them up again.

Check between the washer and dryer. Every once a while, I catch one caught in a pant leg or a sleeve after the wash, and then the dry cycles. Worth it to try a mesh bag, and then have one for each member of the family if it works.

We have victims to sacrafice almost weekly here. Its definately a mystery on where the missing socks go. This reminds me that I need to clean out DH's 2/3rds of the sock drawer. He tends to just fold a holey sock and put it back in rather than discard it.

This is what happens in our house too, except it's me who tosses the holey socks! With 3 gentlemen in the house, we tend to go through the socks before they can get lost! I always buy everyone the same socks, so we have 4 types of socks in the house. I don't even pair them up since each persons are all the same. Everyone's just goes into their drawers and they pair them up themselves, so I actually don't even know how many orphans there might be!

And after saying that, while our socks are pretty organized, I should say, that I have a "lingere" drawer that is in need of help! I use the term lingere loosely, as many of the items in there are old, cotton and holey, too! Maybe I'll go through that in part of my bedroom organization day today!

I am competely conviced that the washer and dryer eat the socks in the house. We have to buy new socks usually about once a month.

The washer and dryer DO eat the socks, it is how they must be fed for their efforts in cleaning!
I starve mine though, I sort the socks out into pairs before the wash and count them as they come out!!!
Each person in the house has their own color coded socks, plus in an added effort I write their initials on the bottom of them to make sure there is never any mistake
    ROFLMAO
I do have a drawer where I have orphaned socks, once a month I go through it and if I have not found their matches I put them in my dusting bucket!! I also run to a friends house to match them up because half the time my daughters friend (also my 7th child!!) leaves one here or my daughter will leave one there!!!
I also have a baggie in my closet where I keep "stray's", you know, the ones who like to sneak off of the childrens feet and lounge in the middle of the freakin floor!!!!!!! Then when they are all out of socks, I make them earn their socks back!!!
They are learning very quickly to keep them on their feet!!!!

I pair my orphaned socks and wear them as an 'odd couple' in my boots, where no-one can see...

There is a collection underground somewhere, if we find that collection we will find all missing socks!! I think if start digging down towards China it should be somewhere in the middle!!! LOL!!

My inlaws just recently had to get a new dryer, upon taking apart the old one, they found several socks laying on the bottom of the dryer, along with like $20.00 in change!!!

I have an orphan sock drawer for my dh's socks. For my boys orphans socks I just leave them in a basket and they can get one when they need one. LOL
