Default We spent a lot of money yesterday but...

.. I can honestly say that it was money well spent and necessary.

My DH has to wear a good looking suit, shirt and tie for his work every day and before we started bugetting in 2007, he thankfully had a good collection that didn't have to be replenished for a while. However, during 2008 we both started saying to one another that at some point he would have to get a new suit/some shirts etc. Wear and tear was starting to show.

We had bugetted $1,000 for the suits etc. and $300 for shoes for 2008.
He has a typical Dutch figure - very tall and a large build however there are two makes of suits that he can wear off the rack -Tommy Hilfiger and McGregor.
However these makes usually start at around $500 PER SUIT here.

Well we held out and held out hoping that at some point a good sale would come around.
    AND IT DID!
A local department store sent us a leaflet saying that they would be having an extra evening opening (yesterday) and that there would be large discounts on certain makes. They also sent us stickers that could be used even on the discounted items - 20%, 15% and 10% - one of each.

While we were there a guy who was finished with buying his stuff came up to us and said that he still had 2 stickers left over and would we like them - of course. I thanked him profusely and we started to shop.

We got 2 McGregor suits (fit perfectly), 4 Tommy shirts, 1 really nice tie which matches a lot of stuff that he (already) has and 2 pairs of handmade leather shoes.
The bill - $700 FOR EVERYTHING.
OK I know - a lot of money - but he is now finished for the entire year and we had budgetted a lot more.
We were so pleased that we waited.
Anyone else hit the January sales?

WOW! Sometimes we just have to "bite the bullet" and spend more money than we want. But honestly, your patience paid off and you guys did great! I bet your hubby is looking good too

    Nice job!

You did well in waiting. We also try to wait for the end of the season sales to find great deals. I'm happy that my dh doesn't have to wear a suit to work everyday.....he gets by in jeans and off the rack shirts. (bought on sale however ).

Wow, what a deal!!! I always love it when I wait for the sales, I know that I can get so much more for the same amount I would have spent anyway!! I don't think $700 is a bad price for everything you got, plus he will wear it and get plenty of use out of it!!

    Way to shop!!

Ooooh, that's great! It's funny because Tommy Hilfiger is expensive even in my hometown, and he's born and raised there! I'm glad your DH got some really nice clothes for way less than you two had budgeted.

Don't feel a twinge of guilt. You did just fine in your purchases, especially since you came in under budget.

Dump that guilt, good quality well fitting clothes are timeless.
