Default Found out what was wrong with me (sorry so long)

I wasn't sure where to post this since it has a little of this and a little of that init so I decided here was good. For the last few months I have been feeling groggy, cold, grumpy and achy (sp) I have daily headacahes and joint pain. And my back hurt so bad I wanted to cry. I have tried revamping my meals, getting outside more( that only makes me colder) exercise you name it. My husband has been laid off and money has been tight so some of the things we normally were getting wasn't happening. One of them were my scripts. I know dumb move. He has insurance through his work but to put me on it wasn't an option since it is so expensive. Well I was able to finally get my meds filled and you would not believe how much of a change there has been after only two days. I take thyroid pills. While the cost doesn't seem like much, it is when you have to choose between eating and pills and don't qualify for any help. I have one little twinge of pain and thats it. Who'd have thunk that a little gland like a thyroid would cause all that chaos??? The arthritis in my hip has even lessened. so I told my ds unless it's something that we cannot live without I would have to have my scripts filled. The only problem is when I have to have blood work they have to have the money up front. That at least half the mortgage payment just for the simple test. I have no clue how much the other one would be. Just wanted to share this with someone. Thanks for listening.......... or ah reading rather.

Wow! Well, I'm glad you are starting to feel better! I have you checked with the pharmaceutical company that makes your scripts? Alot of them now have programs for people who don't have insurance. It isn't necessarily dependent on low income, either, some are just for people who don't have insurance for whatever reasons. Many of them will mail you scripts direct after verifying with the doctor at a huge discount from the pharmacy. I think it is a cut out the middle man kind of thing.

You might find out who makes it and give them a call, explain that you don't have insurance, you can't afford your meds and really need them and simply ask if they have any discount programs. Worst they can do is say no, but best case scenario, you get your meds cheaper!

Glad you figured it out.....funny how that little pill (I take it also!) can make such a difference. That little gland really has a lot of things it works with, and it makes a huge difference in how you feel. I also understand about the cost of medicine. We are lucky and do have insurance BUT we have to met out of pocket costs before our meds are paid for. It does come down to eating or taking meds sometimes, and it is a hard choice when it makes you feel so sick to go without meds that make such a difference in how you feel.

Hang in there, I know you have a huge battle about buying them. But it does make you feel so much better. Wish I had an easy answer, but there just isn't one. Its sad that it comes down to choice of food or meds, but it happens alot. Hopefully things will get better for you soon!

Yep that gland seems to control a LOT. My mother has a thyroid problem as well and has done the same thing in the past when her blood work is coming up. She always manages to find the money for the perscription but let that yearly blood work come up and she'll put it off because it costs so much and it seems ridiculous to her to have to pay it since this is something she's had to take for almost 40 years. After a few days without it though she always breaks down and starts pulling the money together. We keep telling her to just put aside a couple of dollars a month for it but as frugal as she generally is paying for the lab work for this just makes her mad so you won't save for it.

I'm glad you're feeling better. I take one of those little pills every day so I know where you're coming from. Have you thought about a free clinic in the area? Lot's of times they'll have samples or know of a program for you to get your meds. You need this medication! Without it, you will eventually go into a coma and may not wake up! This is what my doctor told me.
Have you considered collecting aluminum cans from the road to pay for the meds?
Have you told your doctor that absolutely can not pay for the meds?
Theres got to be some way for not to have to go thru what you just did.

I know about the feeling good thing. I was just taken off a BP med that I've been on for 10 yrs and I feel so good now! Unbelievable!

I'm glad you were able to get your meds. Maybe you could ask your dr or the hospital about programs that help people who can't afford their prescriptions.

I'm glad you're feeling better. Have you tried Walmart? They have commercials on now about their $4 prescriptions... worth checking out!

I take the thyroid pill, too, and I have gotten to the point where I can tell when my doctor needs to increase my dosage. That little gland causes more problems, doesn't it?

Here in Ne Ohio there are 4 stores that do the 4$/30 day, $10 for 3 months. One is down to $9 for 3 months. Also there are several meds out there that can be split. You need your doc to work with you on it, ask if it is safe to split the pills. Some meds it is OK, others not.

Let's say for sake of easy numbers you take a 2 mg dose of synthroid. If the pills can be split, doc orders 4 mg pills for 30 day supply. Get a pill splitter, cut the pills in half, you now have 2 mg pills for 60 days and you paid for 30 days.

Your thyroid controls everything in your body and without it the problems are enormous. I pay 19.95 for my synthroid and I think the generic is really cheap. The problems will compound if you don't stay current on your meds.

I am so glad that you are feeling so much better! Next time you go to the doctor, ask for some free samples to help off set the cost! We have a doctor here in town that will give any family (low income or not, and insurance or not) free samples, he says, the companys want us to give them out, so why not, they will always give us more!!

I know I have gotten a whole month's worth of Singular for my daughter for free!!

    Doesn't hurt in asking!!

Talk with your doctor too about the cost of the testing. This may not be negotiable because of the labs involved, but, as we say, it never hurts to ask - or at least to present the problem. Doctors need to know if finances are an issue preventing health care.

A few ago i was feeling like crap. Thought i had severa case of the flu. I had forgotten to take my cymbalta and i was having withdrawls symptoms. Within 12 hours of taking it i was so much better. Its hard when you have to choose between eating and meds. My heart breaks for our elders that have to choose.Im glad your better.

I'm like that when I'm late or forget to take 1 of my meds. The withdrawal symptoms are almost instant!

I was going to suggest this too, I know they have certain doses available but if you are close to one your doc may work with you. My MIL is on thyroid meds and hers was not on the $4 list but her does was very close to one that was, her doc said ok, re-wrote the script and she actually felt better on the (slightly) higher dosage. Also, I now get a $20 a month discount on my Prevacid and I believe I will be getting a $10 a month disc on Lipitor for my DH because I checked out their sites. Check out the drug company site or call them and explain your situation and see if they can do something. Good luck.
