    Talking Hi from Fort Worth, TX

    I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to join. My DH and I are both 36 and have no real savings to speak of. With the economy & employment as shaky as it is we're hoping we're not too late to the saving party.

    In less than a month we've managed to add $1000 to our savings account, mostly through cutting back on our monthly expenses (lowering our tv package, cell phone plan, etc.) and from Christmas Money.

    Our hope is to have 6 months worth of expenses saved by the end of the year so if we do get laid off (we're both in the financial services industry) we can weather the storm.

    After that we're going to pay off things on our credit reports & then start paying extra principal on our mortgage.

    Thank you to everyone for their great tips - I've learned so much in just 2 weeks and am eager to learn more.

    Welcome! I grew up in Ft. Worth, graduated from Eastern Hills High School before you were born. Is it still there? It was a good place to live then, and the few people I still know there report it still is.

    You've done very well with savings very quickly. You'll learn lots here from all the wise and experienced master frugalers in FV.
