The evil candy dish at work
Our library director, with great genersity, keeps a candy dish on the circulation desk for all the people who come in the library. She fills it with the good stuff too - Hershey's kisses and nuggets, the bite or fun size Snickers and Milky Way and Butterfinger and Baby Ruth, small bags of M&M's.
One of my jobs, along with my co-worker's, is to keep it filled. It sits about 6 feet from my desk. And during long boring shifts, or just before closing .... well. Use your imagination. I have become very bad about doing some, shall we say, quality control testing.
It's gotta stop. So I've added a line to my siggy to embarrass myself when I weaken and take a Snickers. Just once. Just this once. Right.
Do any of you encounter temptations like this in the line of duty?Donna

Since I'm a SAHM, I am absolutely horrible about any "treats" near my desk. I do a lot of work with the computer and I'll just get the urge to eat whatever is in my desk drawer. This week, it's Bernard Callebaut milk chocolate nuggets that are in a Ziploc bag. There's about 2lbs worth and I eat about eight to ten at a time... about ten times a day!
I'd say I feel shame about it but it was free.

I do not keep candy in my home, and it was never anywhere I worked.(I worked for both a plastic surgeon, and my husband, who is a cardiologist.) Just think of candy hunks as fat globules. And keep something healthy at your own desk.

I think I have ate more Christmas candy than my kids because it was laying out in a big bowl. I put it in the pantry and now I just forget about it...but I understand because even when I worked at the doctors office, there was junk food everywhere! They always had donuts brought to us by the reps.
It's hard to stop at one!

Uhh.....yes.
Unfortunately, my boss and I both have huge sweettooths (teeth? lol), and we are just as bad as each other. When I started working for him ten years ago, I weighed 11 lbs less than I do now, which is a little over a pound a year. I'm sure it's all sugar & chocolate! I need someone to save me from myself! lol

Ah, that is the beautiful thing about staying home. There is no temptation, unless I bring it into the house. I used to work for a company that kept a vending machine for employees, and it was set so that you didn't need to pay for anything. So we got free candy! It was horrible!
Maybe if you keep something good in your desk, you'll be less tempted to go for the candy! Maybe some sugar free candy or something. I bought some of the Quaker multigrain rice cake things this week, and they are really, really good. I got the Honey Graham variety and they are pretty good for you and they certianly kill my sweet cravings!
Good luck, I'll have to make sure I keep an eye on your signature!

Oh yes, at my old job we had insane "lunch parties" whenever the drug reps came to visit -- they would bring a full spread plus several kinds of dessert, and then once you were half asleep from eating too much, they'd finish you off with a boring lecture about some kinda ... medicine ... side effects ... zzz

Actually I said six feet from from my desk, but it is right there when I go to the counter to help anyone. I had a long vacation over the holidays, and it hasn't been as tempting since I've returned. So many things are just habits we fall into. But the students love it so much, I imagine the candy dish is here to stay.
I do bring other things in sometimes, but I really don't need any snacks while I'm working. I make exceptions for the killer shifts like the 13 hours I had Saturday. Anything is game then. But I stayed out of the chocolate!Donna
