Its an accountability thing. Makes it more "real" seeing it out in front of you every time you post you see your own work, right there in black and white. The goal is to get your numbers down, save money, and pay down debt, challenging yourself and being able to encourage others.

ah
Missy, that makes perfect sense and I understand now. I have made it an objective to NEVER pay someone else (or institution) for the privilege of using my own money. Therefore, my family has had no credit cards or loans as far back as I can remember, my dad insisted that us kids learned to save, then buy.
I should add, to my list:
$38,250 in savings, literally under our mattress!
Missy, I'd like to expand on my comment just a bit. I don't know if this process would work for others but it works for my family. For every purchase we make, other than food, my wife & I write down 3 justification reasons on a pad of paper. Must be 3 and the other person has a 'veto' (with justification also) as to why we should not buy something. IF, we have a total of 6 justifications and agree, then we go buy whatever was under discussion. Kinda makes it hard, but we wind up feeling that whatever we agree to buy is necessary. In agreement, for the last 12 years, we have not bought gifts, decorations or excess food for Christmas, Thanksgiving or any other holidays.Last edited by Larry G; 01-13-2009 at 05:30 PM.
