Have You Seen a Canadian Goose Recently?...
...and if so, where?
I really want spring to come and the crazy geese to come back. Where I live, we always have lots of geese at our local parks.
Don't ask me why, but I need to know where our geese are. If you live in the States or Mexico, post where you last spotted a Canadian goose. Thanks!Last edited by QM; 01-14-2009 at 09:46 PM.

Sad to say, it's going to be a long while before anyone sees a Canada goose here. At -49C last night with the windchill and sitting at -32C w/o windchill tonight, we won't see them for a number of months yet. Just think, some of this weather will be heading your way.

Well, we have quite a large group gathering in the region of Milwaukie Oregon. (Suburb of Portland) A small group winter over in the industrial park where I work each winter, but there are many many more than normal. Can I send them home?? They are making it VERY MESSY to walk on my lunch hour.

They come here every winter and leave when spring comes. I live in Northeastern Oklahoma and we have a huge gaggle of Canadians living at the church. We have an acre pond and last year we actually had a pair raise 6 goslings. Yesterday there were about 7 trolling about the grounds.

I live about 25 miles from Wandering Grandma and can tell you guys they live around here year round. The Basket Slough Wildlife Refuge is about 30 miles from here. We see them going that way every day!
When I was a kid, my dad had a federal raptor permit and we rehabilitated birds of prey. A friend brought us a Canadian Honker gosling and we raised him. He had deformed wings and couldn't fly. He lived with us for years.

The geese here never leave, as much as we might want them too. I saw some around a farm pond yesterday. They will run out of open water soon I'm afraid.

We always see a gaggle about 20 miles from us here in Southeast Missouri. Seems like they are always there.

We see many all year round too. Just saw some yesterday in the creek in front of the house. Bonus view of an Eagle chasing a duck. Wonder if the duck got away, that Eagle was in hot pursuit & looked mighty hungry. Last year I saw one kill a goose & eat it. Seems kind of strange to see a bird eat another bird but oh well.

We have a small lake inside our city limits in NE Indiana that is always covered with Canadian geese. Many winter over, but for some we're just a stop-over place spring and fall.
There are so many geese here that the city fathers put birth control in their feed!!
Actually, around here the true harbinger of spring is the return of the coots and the red-winged blackbirds. They arrive before the robins.

I just seen a massive amount of then flying over my house the other day. They always fly over my house really low. We can always tell we might actually get a little cold front or something if we see the geese coming. Sometimes they stop in the nearby fields and stay awhile and sometimes they keep going a little farther to hit the water and head to Mexico I suppose.
