Today is historic. I thought perhaps we could record some of our thoughts and observations about the inauguration of Obama. I really don't want to see this become a debate thread or a hate thread. But I think it's important to set down some thoughts.
I did not vote for Mr. Obama. It wasn't because of race or age, but because he was much more liberal than I like. Nevertheless, I believe he needs prayers. This is a difficult time for anyone to take over the office. While I do not personally support many of his ideas, I do support honor and respect for the office, so I will be praying for him. I want him to be successful.
I'll add more observations later after the ceremonies. Do you want to join in, adding some of your thoughts and observations? We can all share in history!

I plan on watching the ceremonies later today, I was actually considering keeping my son home from school to watch it, but decided that probably wouldn't be best. I hope they get to watch it in school!
I think if he lives up to even half the expectations that people have for him, then he will be one of the best presidents we will ever have in history.
I think he is ushering in a change in the people. The hope he stands for, the hope he is bringing to our nation, can only be a good thing. The kids and I were talking about MLK yesterday, and about what he would be thinking if he were still alive today to see Obama take office. To them MLK is "ancient" history, segregation is "ancient" history, so I had to explain to them, that if MLK's life hadn't been cut short, he more than likely would have still been alive today, as far as life expectancy goes. And we were musing over what his thoughts would be.
It is hard for my kids to understand, what an important event this is. We have raised our children to understand that everyone is equal regardless of who you are or where you come from, so to them, Obama is just a man, who is becoming president. But I think my oldest is beginning to understand the significance of it all!
I'm glad to be living a piece of history today. I'm glad this happened in my lifetime, and I'll be looking forward to it opening the door for future candidates, who otherwise might not have been considered due to race or sex!

I'm with you forHISglory, I didn't vote for him either, for all the same reasons as you....and yet I also have to appreciate that we are all watching history being written before our eyes!
Republican, Democrat, Independant.....it doesn't really matter. He is our nations president. A position that deserves repect, honour, and loads and loads of prayer!!

I can't ever remember being this excited or hopeful about an inauguration. Our homeschool group is celebrating together, some who voted for him, others who didn't. We all stand together now, and hope for the future.
My kids don't really understand the significance either and while I want them to understand the history I am encouraged by the fact that they don't automatically see this as big deal. It means we have made progress in their generation.

I find it amazing to be able to see such a thing in history happen before my eyes. I didn't ever think I would apart of something this historical. I would just like to congratulate Mr. Obama.

I am so excited for this day! I did vote for President Obama, and I intend to watch every minute of his inauguration. In fact, I've already started watching some of the commentary on MSNBC.

I'm home sick today, but I know that we are streaming it live for all the students to see in our building (over 1,000 kids). It is such an historic event and I think that the nation can't help but feel proud today, despite political affiliation, at the strides we've made. Are we done? No way. Unfortunately, we will probably never be "done" with regards to equality, but this is one giant leap in the right direction. I'm excited for the possibility of change that this means for our nation on many levels.
I am so emotional today when I think about what's to come. 44 years from MLK until today, just how far racial relations have come, and how much promise there is for a brighter tomorrow.
Anyone regardless of race, creed, gender and age can come together and celebrate the one thing that'll hopefully bring the US and the world back together. I am extremely privelaged to be a part of this portion of world history.
(I'm recording it on my HDD/DVD-R player and watching it on Facebook!)
I am just sheer awe at the multitude of people who have come out and put forth the effort to make themselves a part of this historical event.

I've waited 8 years for this day and I'm filled with an optimism for the future that I haven't felt in years. I'm quite moved looking at how far we've come, especially since this comes the day after MLK Day.
Tonight, DH and I are opening a bottle of champagne we've been saving since our wedding (the year Gore lost) for something special.

I'm praying both for our departing President and our very soon to be President. He'll be facing so much, he will need both God's help and the support of his country.
