ok...i'll stop lurking...and jump right in....
hello everyone....i'm just another newbie.... not necessarily to being frugal...(i've been told stop being such a 'tight-*@@' all my life) lol...but anyway....i stumbled upon this site about a week ago and like everything else i do in my type-a, obsessive complusive life...i can't PUT IT DOWN... i guess i would have to say "i finally found my PEOPLE"... haha
you guys are awesome with your tips and ideas... and i like that you aren't afraid to share them (even if they ARE a little off the wall sometimes...) and others aren't afraid to tell you "you ARE a little whacked".... you seem like a great little community and i wish i had found you a little earlier in life....but...here we are...together at last... (didn't they always say 'save the best for last')....
i am a 44 yr old married gal from indiana....my husband is an engineer (who by the way doesn't share my frugalities in the least bit...in fact...some days he would like to have me 'put away' if ya know what i mean) anyway...i just ignore him.... so he's not like a 'train' engineer.... but he's definately one of those guys who likes to 'over-think' everything....too bad he isn't frugal...he COULD be awesome....so i will leave him be at the golf course where he could live at if they would let him...and i will hang with 'ya all'....
i have a 24yr old son that moved to another part of the state so i don't get to see him all that much... and i have 2 of the best babies in the world living here at home (psst...they are cats...but don't tell them that....they couldn't handle it !)
i am a landlord and property manager of rental properties that i somehow managed to acquire in a zombie-like state because if i had know what i was getting myself into i would have just rather scheduled a root-canal at the dentist and got the pain over with....
but..with the current state of the economy i am stuck with these houses now so i just make the best of it....but i gotta tell ya....i have NEVER seem a bigger group of 'wasteful offenders' than my tenants.... geez..... it would make all your heads spin so fast they would fly right off..... so subjecting myself to their 'ways' everyday sure helps me stay on track and feel good about myself...
i am an avid exerciser (have been a little over the top my whole life) so i have somehow managed to keep my weight on track...though i am seeing the ravages of old-age starting to take its toll so those last 5lbs come and go like a yo-yo.... i am a vegan so i don't have to worry much about 'meat-less' days....been this way for 27 yrs... hubby likes a good steak but his mean wife won't make him one....for the most part i still cook him chicken and pork chops but that's where i draw the line...(plus the tears dripping tend to over-salt the meat...) ha
i really am fascinated by your updated challenge postings (i know...i should take up a hobby or something huh?) but its fun to watch your figures going up or down (hopefully in the appropriate directions)... i will definately be jumping in on that band-wagon coz my debt could use some major reductions....and my savings are screaming from years of neglect....
so anyway....as you can tell...i COULD go on and on...but i know you all probably have better things to be doing so i hope to make many new friends from this site and learn some awesome new tricks...and be debt free ...sometime in my lifetime....
hope to be chatting with you soon............. have a great day !!

:welcometofv: Maybe you could bring him around to a more frugal lifestyle bribing the poor guy with a steak now & then, lol. Sorta like I'll cook beef if you'll do XYZ.

You sound like you already feel at home here, which is great! You'll find all kinds of "off-the-wall" ideas bounced around proudly here! I love the fact that some of the craziest of frugal ideas, are embraced by many of us here at the village! We can't ALL be weirdos, right?

I know exactly what you mean!
Until I found this site, I didn't know that people these days make their own soap or laundry detergent or shampoo or toothpaste. I've grown to really like and respect a lot of people on this forum. A lot of people live a completely lifestyle than me, but they're really neat people.
My husband is the same way! It's frustrating, but I'm hoping he'll catch on within time.
I have my own challenge and I have to say that it's a lot of fun! I've learned so many frugal tips since joining Frugal Village.
Hi and welcome to Frugal Village from cold, cold Canada! I'm glad you've joined!
