There is NOTHING wrong with delivering pizzas! ANY job that is honest is a good job. It may not be your first choice, but it will put food on the table and gas int he tank until the right job comes along.

Any job is better than no job. I get so tired of hearing that it does not pay to take a certain job. If you have no job or money then what other option do you have?

I'm glad he could find work. I'm amazed people can still afford delivered pizza. Despite the failing economy and people out of work, there are still lines at our local drive thru DQ's, MC Ds and Sonic. My girls were just commenting today, gee mom, there cant be that big of a crisis. There's a line at DQ, why cant we go too? arrrgg.
While these local franchises are still open, they don't seem to have suffered too much. I'm glad people can still find a job even if they are overqualified.

I think this article is great. Sometimes you just don't have the luxury to shop around for your perfect job.

I went from a good paying job, to working 2 or 3 not so great jobs to just make ends meet in my mid 20's. It was hard and I was doing it alone. It might have been easier if I were married (not with children though).
My Dh and I have started talking about what we will do once our baby is born. He knows my job has been difficult on me, more work and no raise as the company tightens its belt and overworks certain employees (for the better good of the agency, that's how it was put to me, like I should be willing/happy to "take on extra" for the team)
.
Since Dh is a full time student, he's looking into teaching part time at a junior college while finishing his Doctorate Degree. If he is able to find that kind of work, I would not have to return part time to my job. In my heart I don't want to go back part time, but if I'm able to work around Dh's schedule so that we won't have to pay for child care I probably will to help my team (my family)!!! It's the responsible thing to do, even if it means being taken advantage of at my company. The agency knows the economy is suffering, and they can pile on the work, because when there is little work to be had....where would I go???

It's almost impossible for teens to get jobs in my area. There are so many out of work adults who can work without any time or schedule restrictions why would they hire someone who can't work whenever they need them.
Just a personal thought: but why is dh pressuring her? You only a kid once.

You have to do what you have to do. Good for

Am I the only one that was rather annoyed at the headline? It makes it sound like he's a wimp whose wife ordered him to deliver pizzas or else. The article mentioned nothing about him not wanting to take a job, only the headline. Maybe it struck me the wrong way?

Good for them! I have to admit that I was starting to get annoyed, as I read, that it didn't seem that the wife was willing to work to help with the bills until almost the very end where they mentioned her job. I was about to write her a note telling her that if she's not broken, there's no reason she can't get a job, too! However, turns out, she is doing her part.
I agree with the above poster that this should be the norm, not the exception. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Part of my position at work entails finding appropriate housing for incoming workers. In my part of 'the South', we have the same rent as you do for unfurnished 1 br/1 ba apartments. It is not all that easy down here. I'm a transplanted Yankee. We are suffering with the rest of the country. We may have some things cheap, but we are gouged in other areas, like groceries and housing.
The family in the article are truly blessed to have a house that they got a good deal on, to begin with. They are making it with what they have and what they can accomplish together. They are blessed to have children who understand. They also seem to be in the mindset of knowing what they really need vs what they want. I believe that we Americans are spoiled because we've not had a bad economy for a long time. We'll make it, all right.Projects in Progress: quilt, bathroom rugs, knitting dishcloths
