Suggestions for self-improvement books?
Just curious if anyone has any self-improvement books they'd recommend?
I'm currently reading "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey.
I'm trying to focus on being self-disciplined, organized, and having a positive attitude (one of my new years resolutions) and I know that reading these types of books will really keep me motivated (just like reading FV threads keeps me frugal!
).
TIA

I really enjoyed Larry Winget's "Sit Down, Stop Whining, and Get a Life!". It's very no-nonsense.

I've read lots of those types of books through out the years, my favorite was "Co-dependant No more". But, for the life of me I can't remember the author's name.
"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon
"Infinite goodness has wide arms." Dante

You know who most self-help books are motivating for? The authors who feed on our insecurities. Some have earned a reputation. Can't really argue with Covey. But try to be sensible. There are a lot of wacky people out there with "the answers", who just want to get your money.
I think this forum can be more of a help and support group than most of the run-of-the-mill books full of blah blah blah.Scott Virtes

"What to Say When You Talk to Yourself" - Shad Helmsetter
Lousy writing, but very, VERY important content. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

~I like self-help books but I really think I hear the message better through reading biographies.
For example, I changed alot about my time organization after reading a biography about George H.W. Bush. The amount of things and people he juggled every day for years puts my little list to shame.
I changed alot about my attitude after reading "The Diary of Anne Frank".
Make a list of people you admire in some way and read about their lives. I find it very inspirational!
I've noticed half of 'self-discipline' seems to come from taking care of yourself. I take care of myself through healthy food, exercise, time outdoors, prayer, music, sewing and reading. When I've put something in my tank I find it easier, almost automatic, to follow through on the things I know need to be done. The other half of self-discipline is routine routine routine!~~Constance
