Having a bad day
I've been having a bad day today -
Last week (on monday) someone knocked down our mailbox (this is the 4th time in as many years). So - that's $100 out of our pocket to go buy a new one. I went to the post office on Thurdsay to get our mail, but they said that the mailman had it out with him. DH went out last night and finally got the new mailbox up. Now, mind you we have over a foot of snow on the ground, so it wasn't easy.
Today, I ran out to the mailbox, and no mail. I called the post office, nope it's not there. I jumped in my car and chased down the mail man (who is an (verybadwod)) and he said "Your mail got sent back to the senders, since no mail box means nobody lives there!!)
*&$$$@@! Jerk. He sees the cars, the snow is shoveled, he knows we have problems with people knocking over our mailbox!! We have the nicest house in this entire park! He knows we live there.
Called the post office back, yep, they remember sending it back.
So, now I get to sit on the phone (I hate at&t's customer service!) all day trying to pay our bills. PLus I know my W2 was coming this week, DH's 401(k) statement, who knows what else?
I actually started crying from frustration when talking to the mailman.
GRRR - I can't wait to move away from this place.

I feel for you. We have had the happen twice now. Once because my name got removed from the mailbox and once because I did not change the name on my mailbox (to my married name) fast enough. It was so frustrating. I lost refund checks, bills, and wedding gifts. I was so mad at the Post office.

Your post office sounds like they hire some real jerks!!! Why does it cost you so much for a mailbox...the most we've ever had to spend was $10...

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with someone knocking down your mailbox. I would be majorly p.o.'ed if the mailman had told me that. What a jerk!

Knocking down a mailbox is such a dumb prank. Ha ha, big laugh. And a real headache for the victim.
Monday was our bad day of the month. A strange sequence of cats:
First I had to get a CAT scan of my head (over 2 years now of faint and dizzy spells). Then my wife came home from her job all upset (hours cut back to almost nothing), so we went to go for a walk. Usually walking helps. Barely 4 houses up the road was a dead kitten in the road -- once a perky thing owned by a neighbor friend (whose son is still in the hospital after a major motorcycle accident) -- so we got to call her and ask what she wanted us to do ... and then on the next block, an abandoned cat we've been taking care of comes running over for hugs with its eye all blown out and dripping, and after calls with vets we're told it's roughly $1,200 to fix (more than anyone would sanely pay for someone else's cat) but we did find a neighbor to look after her for now. Then we were a block from 7-11 and thirsty but had only a dime between us. So, that was the least therapeutic walk ever.
My website/ebay business is down 80%, between us we have 50-odd resumes out there with no response from anyone, we're projecting that we'll be $1,500 short on the mortgage, and the doctors can't bother to call me back with my CAT scan results ... which, if negative, mean I wasted a bunch of money on nothing (cheap insurance will only pay some random percent), and if there's something there, it's even worse.
That's my four cents worth of the blues. Luckily, I have Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan to sing me songs about people with REAL problems. ;-)
Oh, the CAT scan came out negative. Doctor said he'd call but sent the results by mail instead. So, waste of money. Yay.

I'm sorry your mail person is such a jerk. We lucked out in that department. We have a very sweet woman who is constantly asking how things are going. We got a post office box in the town where I go to school and where we hope to move and we are constantly getting other peoples mail. DH and myself are the only ones listed yet we have gotten someone elses check, junk mail, etc. I keep giving it back...

Thanks for all your responses! I can usually let things roll off my back, but for some reason, yesterday was just not able to.
ScottVee - I'm sorry for all you're going thru, kinda puts mine in perspective.
CMDarling - I"ve thought about getting a PO box, might end up getting one soon.
I went for a run yesterday after all this happened - turns out anger and bad moods only last about 2 miles
After that gasping for breath takes precedence. LOL
I woke up today early, got my house cleaned, last load of laundry going and I think I'm going to pull out my sewing machine and quilt somthing.
I'm made the decision that today will be a good day!

Isn't it nice how a run can just clear your head?

I have a post office box, and my mail guy has a crush on me, so no worries there. The only thing he does that drives me crazy (besides doodling little cartoons and messages on my mail) is that he always puts a slip in my box when I get a package, vs. a key so I can pick it up out of the locker. Which means I have to take the time to go to the post office when it is open to pick it up. Which is a pain!!
ScottVee, sorry about the cat. I've got a feral hanging around my house that I feed, and when she first showed up, I seriously didn't think she'd last the night. Looked like she'd been the chew toy for several dogs, and was starving to death to boot. I have not been able to catch her, but she comes in to feed every day (and is smart enough to avoid the Hav-a-Hart). Her eye is swollen shut and looked infected, as well, but seems to have healed itself. I don't know how badly "your" cat is hurt, but if you can feed her, you can always get antibiotics (and you can get amoxycillin at any pet store that sells fish meds) into her and at least keep her from getting an infection. It is a poor substitute to getting her to a vet, but sometimes it is all you can do for an animal that decides to place its well-being in your hands. If her eye is really bad (like time to amputate bad), you might call around to some local rescues. Many of them have vets they work with who give deep discounts for good samaritans such as yourself. At the least, they might be willing to examine her and let you know whether she is in pain and what needs to be done. Quoting $1,200 over the phone sounds downright unprofessional to me, and it doesn't sound like that particular vet has much concern for the animal.DH aka Mad Hen
