    Default Finally!

The people who designed/built this house must have been idiots, or something. Anyway, my kitchen counters are tiled, and falling apart. The grout is coming out, the metal that holds the sink in place has been rusting for the past 4 years. What and how to fix this is something DH and I have talked about, worked on, fussed and fought over.

This week on Craig's List, there was a NEW sink, with counter and we just bought it! Yeah!!!

Another thing that the folks who had this house did was to put all the counters 4" or so away from the wall. Well that works fine, if you're 5'6" or so, but I"m < 5', so there's a lot of dead space on the counters and in the cabinets I cannot reach. After we tear the old counter up we're going to move the cabinets back to the wall, which will effective make my counters smaller, but more usable.

    Whoppee!

What a relief that will be! Good for you! I know my back hurts from having to lean over the counter the way I do to wash dishes because I am short and it's too high. Even in the bathroom, water gets all over the front of me when I wash my face because I can't bend over the sink. I think they make everything to fit a 6' tall man.

What great finds, I love Craigslist! You're going to love your kitchen so much more after y'all get everything done.

Sounds like the people who built my parents old house. Their kitchen cabinets were hung with finishing nails....which they found out about the night or morning (around 3 am) when they all fell. One cabinet started and managed to pull the rest with them. They lost all of their glasses and dishes..not to mention her baking stuff, crock pot etc. it was a huge mess. I just remember the phone call to the builder. It was the first time I heard my dad say some ugly words! Needless to say my dad supervised the all the work in their current house.

We already went through a version of that, the cabinet WAS going to fall off the wall, thankfullly DH noticed it and fixed it before we lost the cabinet!

I'm sure they thought they were making things better by adding 4" onto the back of all the counters in the house. However, when those counters include a (no lie) 10' long island that's 4' wide, you've gone a bit overboard! It was supposed to be a counter to eat from too, but the over hang isn't enough for me to put my legs under, much less my 6'1.5" husband! Also, the braces they put in for the counter make it impossible to use too, as they're in the way. This house looks great and was put together really badly!
