I won it and trying to use it...
Ok, I won a laptop computer at the Christmas raffle. Yep, everyone laughed, and asked me " what are you going to do with that?"
Of course I answered I'm going to learn how to use it! Well here it is the end of Jan. and guess what. Yep, I can turn it on and off and come come here to FV. And thats about it. Don't ask me to chat or anything, I'm still freaked out from the last time I tried to go to the chat room!
Everyone here was going to teach me how to do things, but they either take it way from me & do it themselves, or are doing their own thing. Plus they had to set it up & get wireless etc. I have no idea what or why they did anything.
So I sit here & look at my new red, gateway trying to figure things out. Guess I will buy a computer for dummies book. It is so frustrating.

Oh, wow...that's exciting. My best advice as far as figuring technology out and just sorta of "wander" around and you just figure it out eventually.

Congrats on winning the lap top. Some things are easier learned when trying to figure them out yourself. Also you could post here if u need help with something specific, I am sure we would love to help. HUG

Well, if you can get on FV, then that is all you need right???

I agree with Tigergirl...just fiddle with it until you figure things out!

And have someone you can call when your fiddling effs up.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

LOL, I had no idea what you meant at first, and then I remembered the friendship request from awhile back! I think you just click on accept or not accept.
I've been wanting a laptop for some time, but won't be getting one anytime soon. Enjoy yours, you'll figure it out if you play around with it. I'm sure the book will be a big help, too.

Congratulations on the new laptop. You might call your local community college or adult education program and ask about some if they have some computer classes that you could take. In my area the city government has a program for citizens over 55 that they only charge $5 or $10 a year for and they offer lots of classes including beginning computer classes that cover basic skills like email, surfing the internet, using search engines etc.... . If there is something like that there, you might be able to get in a class even if you are not old enough for the program.

Call your nearest 12-13 yr old to explain it ... lol. That's mainly what I do -- or my computer nerd hubby. What do you want to be able to do with it? Write/blog type things or compute/budget type things? Mostly I use word processing software or Excel -- what did yours come with?

I agree on finding a teen or preteen to help you. They will tell you all you need to know all for the price of a plate of cookies.
My two teens both have a laptop that seems to be attatched to them. They show me new ways of doing things on mine all the time.

I learned by figuring it out myself and it worked out well. Now I can even replace parts in my computer.
