Thank goodness
I am thanking God that DH and I did not get sucked into the start-up business frenzy over the last few years. We have two friends who jumped into start-ups, lured by very big paychecks and promises of future riches with stock options. DH was offered a job by one of these friends, a job that would have boosted his paycheck by about $40,000 a year, but after we talked about it, we decided it was best that he stay put. (We both work in higher ed.)
Both of these friends have been laid off in the last year, one just last week. I feel just so bad for these folks. Now both are trying to find jobs in this economy, and it's not going well.
DH and I took the slow and steady pace and so far, it looks like we made the right choice. We don't make what you'd make in private industry, but at least we are comfortable and have paychecks.

Its tough making those career choices. I glad you can look back & know it was the right decision. I often find the path I choose is not the one other's would. But it works just fine for me. And you too!

I am glad to hear that you and your DH made the right choice. Sometimes it is difficult to know what to do. I feel sorry for your friends though.
