    Default Good news! Twice!

    Good news 1:
In our Department meeting our Manager told us that, although the company has to 'restructure' the workforce, the jobs in my Department are safe. One colleague left voluntarily last November and she will not be replaced, but this also means that our Department has already been 'restructured'.

    Good news 2:
The Landlord finally send round a man to install the new kitchen! They had promised us a new kitchen for October latest, but did not deliver the Ikea flatpacks until early January. It then took another 3 weeks and lots of phonecalls from us to hire someone to actually put it together. We would have done it ourselves, had not the plumbing been an issue.

    That's great news all round.

What a relief about your job.

Isn't it great to have a new kitchen. Is it a lot different from your old kitchen? Different color/style etc.?

The kitchen is such a huge difference!

It was a 30-year-old tiny faux wood work kitchen. The work surface was only 35 cm (1 ft) deep. It only came up to my upper thigh. Only half of the bottom cupboards had a bottom shelf, the rest was just straight unto the cement floor of the kitchen. The lower cabinets (even the one with the sink and tap) were not fixed to the wall, so if you leaned on them, they would tumble forward and spill their contents on the floor. The 4 tiny drawers could only house 8 teatowels each, and only if they were carefully folded. The afzuigkap (thingy that sucks the smelly air out) was placed over the SINK, at eye level, so that you had to bend over really weirdly to do the dishes, and still bumped your head when you got up. And it didn't work either.

The new kitchen is Ikea, white, big cupboards, clean, plenty of shelves, 2 sinks, comes up to my waist (I'm 5'11") and has the airthingy over the stove. Ooooh, I'm so looking forward to baking again!

Congrats on both countsI know the new kitchen will add lots of value to your life and the stress reduction of the already restructured job, well as they say on the MasterCard commercial....'priceless'...
