Bad day for my crockpots
I use my crock pots at least once a week. Yesterday was a bad day for them.
One had the temp. knob come off and now we can't get the knob to change the cooking level.
Then when I went to take the top of the other one. The handle (knob) you know the top of the lid. Well if broke off from the rest of the lid. So now the lid can't be used to cook.
I'm still trying to figure out how to frugally fix, replace parts, or get another crock pot (s). I need them to be in working order soon.

Oh bummer. I'm sorry to hear about your crockpots. Perhaps you could put out a plea on freecycle or check craigslist.
Sending you good crockpot-karma.

I googled "crock pot knob" and found some sites that sell replacement knobs. It was like 2 for $5.99...not horribly expensive.

I may have fixed at least temporarily the knob on one crock pot (actually it is a Corning slow cooker), unless some one raises a red flag saying "no don't use it that way"
The knob broke because it cracked. I super glued the crack and after it dried slipped the knob back on it's post.
Do you think it would be safe to use the slow cooker now?
I'm not to sure I want to super glue the top of the lid back on as the steam would reach the super glue and I'm not sure what that would do to the food inside. Does any one have an opinion of this one?
how much of a seal does the lid have to make on the crock pot ( this one is a real crock pot). I have a cassrole lid that fits but it doesn't seem to make a tight seal it fits like a pot lid so I would think to much seam would escape. What do you think?
If I can get at least one crock pot usable be used that would be a good thing.Last edited by imagine; 01-29-2009 at 11:47 AM. Reason: add more thoughts

Oh no! I had the knob come off of mine but it was pretty easy to get back on. I think I'd be lost if I didn't have my crockpot.

I think the super glued knob that isn't attached to the lid would be pretty safe to use. I wouldn't try to glue the lid's knob, though. That's just a safety issue for me.
Did you check Corning's website? I'd email the company and see what sort of fix they have for their cookware. They may even have a way for you to find cheap replacement parts locally.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

My knob broke on my crockpot about three years ago and I've been using it still ever since!
Maybe this is why DH says I am waaaaay too cheap! The plastic piece that holds the knob is still there, so I just put on an oven mit and I am able to turn it. And it just has off, high, med & low. So as long as I start at off...I know just how far to turn it!

If you can get it for an inexpensive fix then go for it. Unless you have a fancy crock pot you can get a good new one for $40 or less.

Hope you can get it fixed! We all can not live without our cp's, can we? Mine is a lifesaver......maybe check the Salvation Army? I normally see anywhere from 2-4 here at mine...and they are usually in good shape....just a thought.

We tried turning it the the plastic piece but couldn't get it to turn. Hubby says we need more leverage. I was able to turn it with pair of pliers. Hubby says we just need to mark it so we know which on it is on. That didn't work. We will have to count the clicks too. off, low, high, auto

I see crockpots all the time at Goodwill or Rescued Treasures...maybe you can find one to fit your needs at a thrift shop.

I had one that the knob broke on and I used a small pair of pliers for well over a year until it finally quit working. I then got 2 for Christmas that same year.
