    Default Part Time Jobs

I was curious if the current economy has spurred part time jobs. Between you and your spouse or SO, do you have part time jobs? How many? What do you do? Did you begin your part time job before or after the economic meltdown? Do either of you also have full time jobs? Any advantages to part-timing? Do you think more people are going toward part time jobs? Any other thoughts?

Hubby and I both have part time jobs, and neither of us work full time. Between the two of us, we make one salary (with no benefits). We teach some classes at a local university. While we enjoy the jobs, we would like to have time to travel and do some other things. However, we continue with the jobs for two reasons: one, it pays for our health insurance, and two, if we would quit for a time, it could be difficult to get back in.

Neither dh or I at this point in our lives, needs a job. He's disabled and his income is sufficient for our current needs. If I ever had to, I would find something I could do out of my home like babysit.

I know quite a few people who are taking on part-time jobs in addition to their full-time jobs just to make ends meet.

Neither of us have them, but I am always on the lookout for a PT job that would work with Dave's schedule. He works a ton of hours and travels often, so it's hard for me to find a job that would enable me to work and him to be home with the kids.

We're both retired, however I have a casual job at the library. It works out to one day a month. I only took it because it was something to do for fun.

I am the one with the part time job, the hubs works full time. I can only work part time because of my disablity. This works best for our family and is not related to the economy.

I was very fortunate to get a FT job in my department in January (RN), but on my day off I am watching my twin nephews (just turned one, and I was watching them 3 days a week since they were born, and working one day a month at the hospital). Though we can certainly use the $$$ (2 in college, 2 at home), I watch the babies because I miss seeing them!
I could not turn down that FT job when it was offered! So far, all is well (just my house is not quite as clean!)

We both have part-time jobs in addition to our career-job. I usually work a part-time job or 2 in addition to my teaching business, that's how musicians get by. I've had 3-4 gigs at a time before, it's not uncommon.

I work a part time job and DH has a full time job. His job is very demanding of both time and energy. Working part time allows me to carry the weight of our home life and up keep but still have the additional income. I will probably work after DH retires in a couple years. I really like to work part time.

neither of us have PT jobs. Dh's full time job isn't always "normal" business hours. The only way I could have a PT job would be to work weekends and then we'd never see each other. We aren't in a position where I have to work.

I've never had a full-time job, only part-time. Now, the part-time I do is fairly well paid, so that my income on one part-time job pays my bills. When this wasn't the case and I combined part-time jobs to make ends meet, this was rather a nuisance. Part-time jobs also have a terribly low job security...
My husband works full-time, but as an apprentice. He makes less than I do part-time, so I do not envy him - yet. He's been promised a contract as soon as his apprenticeship is over, and when I see his salary then, I'll scream of envy! He's considering to take up weekend freelance work once he's signed his new contract, but I think that would be crazy. I second the idea in principle, but not just at this moment.

What I like about part-time: Being able to sleep in once in a while. A certain flexibility (If I'm not earning much now, finding another job that won't make me rich either isn't as difficult). Enough time for continuing my education (part-time job + two courses of study in different subjects at different universities -> I love it!).

DH and I both have fulltime jobs. I'd rather work parttime so I'd have time to do household stuff. It's hard running a frugal household on top of a fulltime job with a 60 mile commute.

Once the mortgage is paid off, I might be able to go to parttime, but right now, we're heads down, knocking out the debt.

I have been averaging less than 40 hours a week for years. So you could almost say my full time job is a part time job. I am actually looking to cut back my hours and focus on making my hoof trimming hobby into a business.
