Smile I'm moving. I need your advice.

Hello everyone! Some of ya'll might of read my thread about getting this new job, so now I have decided that I needed to "spread my wings" and get my own place. I am only 23 years old so I need to get out of my parents house and finally have a place to call "mine." I searched and searched and I think finally found the place I want. It's an efficiency (bigger than the one bedroom they had for rent) that's 370$ a month and it's actually quite big. I am getting a new bed for free, will have my dresser, my couch, and my clothes. I am also getting gifted a dish strainer, some pots/pans, some glasses/cups, and the security deposit. I was wondering what was some other things that people usually buy when renting/buynig their new place? So far I have

    Shower Curtain
    Bath Mat for inside tub
    Dish Soap
    Body Wash
Black out curtains (I work at night, these are a must!!)
    Silverware
    Shampoo
    Conditioner
    New sheets & comforter
    Toilet Paper
    Paper Towels

    For groceries I have:
    Bread
    Milk
    Hamburger
    Chicken
    Salt
    Pepper
    Mayo
    Mustard
    Ketchup
    Flour
    Sugar
    Worsechire Sauce
    Rice
    Pasta
    Pop
    Peas
    Corn
    Eggs
    Onions
    Crackers
    Canned Soup
    Potatoes

    Medicinal :
    Immodium
    Headache medicine
    Back and body medicine
    Bandaids

Any suggestions? Comments? Tips?! Anything is appreciated! TIA!!

Bath towels and washcloths? Hair dryer?

You probably already have them but they weren't on your list, so . . . . .

I have bath towels where I currently am living. Thanks for reminding me to put it on my list of stuff to take though!!

As for hairdryer, I don't currently own one. I let my hair air dry.

what i've been doing is as you go through your regular day exam the little things that you use and determine if you'll need or want it.

    telephone?
    bug spray?
    mop?
    broom?
    lotion?
    razors?
    shaving cream?
    birth control?
    feminine products?
    etc.

Plates, bowls (mixing & cereal), cooking utensils, pasta strainer, oven mitt, hot pan holders, kitchen towels & dish clothes, water pitcher (for making juices, etc.), wooden spoons (no kitchen is complete without wooden spoons), vacuum (if you have carpet), broom & dust pan, mop, mop bucket, dish soap, scouring pads, cast iron fry pan (no kitchen is complete without one), waste can(s), slow cooker and I would need a coffee pot & all that goes with it.

EF with at least 3-6 months living expenses...things cost more when you don't live with mom & dad .

P.S. Congratulations on spreading your wings!!!

Cleaning supplies (plus essentials like mop, broom, dustpan), garbage bags, etc.

My best advice to you is just to plan ahead as much as you can! And when you move into your first place, you'll probably be "gifted" tons of stuff that other people don't need! When I got my first place, I was amazed at how much second hand stuff I got!

Plus, if someone mentions getting you a housewarming gift, and they ask you what you want, TELL THEM! Let them know what you need, or you'll end up with a ton of useless (but pretty) housepants!

toilet bowl brush, dishrack, vacuum, coupon binder. You may want to get some shelving you can use in a closet for a pantry. I would definately get the word out that you are moving and in need of pretty much everything. Also try to be patient when buying items for your place. Sometimes it helps to save up and buy something that will last. Don't forget about yardsales and thriftstores or freecycle to help you.

Congrats, I am sure this is an exciting time for you.

keep an eye on craigslist and freecycle. will you have a patio or a deck? if so, maybe a fold up chair to sit out there in the sun on your time off. How about a small dinner table or some tv trays? Maybe some (2??) chairs for that.

A pot to boil water in, strainer to strain pasta, some spoons, ladles, and other cooking utensils. a set of silverware, some glasses? do you drink coffee? a coffee maker, and a mug or two.

A crockpot would be ideal for making easy dinners. Let the crockpot do the work. How about a small microwave? Or toaster oven...

ummmmm, i cant think of much else.

feminine hygeine stuff, neosporin, burn cream, aloe, lotion, soap (dish and bath),

hammer, screwdrivers, level, tacks, nails, tape measure...

    Light bulbs

    Trash bags

    A hand operated can opener

An oil lamp and oil for power outages

    A flashlight with batteries

    Throw rugs

    Ziploc bags, plastic wrap, foil

I was sure everyone would list these but no...

These are the last two things I pack when I'm moving and the first two to UNPACK: toilet paper and light bulbs. There's nothing worse than having no TP or not being able to see when it gets dark! Put a roll of TP and a few lights in a lunchbag next to your purse so you won't forget them.

Also, if you don't have it, a keyring to put the apartment key! (I had a self-contained car key my first apt, nowhere to put my apt key?)

    Good luck and congrats!
